Reebok Hockey

Recommended Posts

The Reebok Pump was a licensed technology.  It had nothing to do with Nike's purchase of Bauer.

I think we all know that Nike and Reebok are seperrate companies, I don't see the point of that sentence.

Well, remember back in the day whey CCM came out with the 652 "pump" tacks?  That was when they experimented with a partnership with Reebok in answer to Nike first getting into hockey.

He was responding to that.

When Jofa was Sweedish, did they ever make skates?

Jofa used to make skates, but they were low end models and very cheap, good for beginners and kids but nothing you'd see on a higher level player. I even had a pair myself as a kid. Not sure if they ever made any high end skates of any sorts, it's possible that they did so in the 70's, not sure.

Here are a couple of their models (pics taken from online auctions) to see a couple examples of what I mean.

Actually they still make a skate model, it's called Jofa 391 and looks like another low end model as well, it's on their Swedish site:

Wow, those Jofa skates look like something I'd get if I rented them from my local arena.

Oh my god...have I become a skate snob?? But I only use 852 Tacks and they're just over a year old...I can't be one of them....Mommy!!!

We don't mention that name in Orlando anymore...

I know what adidas skates you're talking about...I saw them at the HHOF...belonged to an Austrian player. They were all leather with the three stripes. I made a comment that they should've had shell toes and fat laces...

anyways, i can't believe nike hasn't thought of putting shocks on skates or something like that like their shoes have

i know it would probably have no positive effect, but seeing what all these companies are trying it would be interesting

the shock idea is interesting, i dont think it'd work very well though, thinking about your stride and that kind of thing, if we were going off jumps on the ice, they'd work pretty well, but i dont find myself jumping very often on the ice.

If anyone is interested I can scan some pic (not closeup but still) of some player from the late 70's wearing Adidas skates, I have some book somewhere with a pic of the guy in action. But only if anyone cares, as I said it's not a closeup so it's not like looking at a pic from a catalog.

I would like to see them. I contacted someone from Adidas about skates and guess what. They tried to tell me Adidas never was involved in hockey. So yes please post them.

Funny - they used to make NHL jerseys back in the 70s...

adidas makes jerseys for plenty of European teams.

In 1996, the Rochester Americans went across the pond to play in the Spengler Cup. And rather than wearing the same jerseys that they wore in the AHL, they had adidas jerseys that were Euro-ized with all sorts of sponsors' ads on them.

I keep kicking myself for the fact that I didn't buy one of them when they were selling them after the tournament.

Adidas didn't just make skates in the 80s. A few years ago in the UK, there was a player called Jonathan Weaver (played for the Manchester Storm), who wore Adidas gloves, which were all black, with white detailing. I'm not sure if they were just rebadged or something tho....

I found some links:
