Someone hacked my credit card

Recommended Posts

Some a-hole got my card # & charged about $200 worth of long distance & other stuff. Bank of America caught it before it got out of hand & cut 'em off at the pass.

Mega props to Bank of America from me! B)

Same thing happened to me last week except Commerce didn't catch it, I did. So i reported the charges and they were credited back.

BofA is good, almost too good, at cutting stuff off early. I remember being on vacation in Hawaii and having a CC declined, then calling BofA to see what was up and they cut it off since it was being used out of my home state. Now I'm Pavlovian about calling them before I go anywhere.

I hope I don't give people ideas but be weary of standing inline and using your CC.

Some people are using cellphones to take pictures of the card while your holding it to get your #.

Then using it on the net.

Not sure if that had happened to you.... but I always try to hold my card and cover some of the #s

Must be a busy fraud week. A guy I work with had his bank card double swiped somewhere over the weekend and they took $500.00 out of his account.

He's covered and will get his money back, but still the hassle is ridiculous.

yeah, i keep mine in my wallet until I hand the cashier the card because of this. I'm always leary about calling a company and giving them CC info over the phone, the person could be taking notes of the numbers of the card. :(

A grocery store around here had a leak months ago, but didn't make it public until 2 weeks ago. I think I used my debit/credit card there only once. I was in Cancun and my card wouldn't work at the ATM or Club (Tiesto was guest DJ, I did get in though). Called Citizen's Bank the next day, my card had $2100 worth of charges on it for 2 Dubai Emirates flights. I'm in the process of sorting things out now.

My bank card wouldn't work at lunch one day...so I called the bank and they told me that I had used the card at a place were they suspected fraud. They wouldn't say where...so I went through my recent transactions and called the places to see if they had reported anything. None had. I went to the bank and got a new card set up.

That night when I got home there was a message on my home phone from the bank telling me everything I already knew.

A couple days later there was a news story about a gas station who had a recently fired employee who had been double swiping cards. Cops were looking for him. I had bought gas there on my way home from hockey late one night the previous week.

Luckily no money taken.

Several years age, while I was in Dallas, there were a couple gas stations that were magnetizing blank cards with thier customer's credit card #s. If I recall correctly, they tried paying at the pump at other gas stations to fill thier own tanks.

Damn that happened to me like 2 weeks ago. Someone had my card number and tried charging 400 dollars for background checks or something. I have no idea where they got my number from. I have Bank of America, they called me twice in one night and then again first thing in the morning before I finally answered and they told me I had been flagged for weird card usage.

Less than a week I had a new account and card, all my money was back, good to go. BofA is great!

All this is putting a stop to my plan of applying for a CapitalOne card just to see how bad of a picture I could make a credit card of. The world will never see my tubgirl now.

dang this is a epidemic! my amex had 2 charges of $400 and $200 on it, i disputed it, Amex was" unable to issue me back a credit". But there process is funny, they inquire with the company who accepted the charge, they show it was used, then i get refused. I have to re-open the claim to get amex to investigate. This should be an open and shut case as the charges are 6 hours away from where i live and i was working at the time of the 2 charges and even faxed them my timecard.

One of my biggest peeves are the people in line behind you that seem to be looking over your shoulder while you type in your PIN. "Can I help you with something? " normaly buys you some space..

I agree! even the cashiers. I usually give them an accusing look and they look away

They got me a few weeks ago. $100 worth of NetFlix, Grant Consultants, BidFuel, some eBay thing, a few book-of-the-month clubs.

I saw weird charges on my online history and went in the next morning to Citizens and had them flag the card. Working right now to get back the cash.

They got the card I used for online purchases, luckily I have a second card that I only use in physical machines so I was not interrupted by not having a card.

Mine was a Citizen's Bank Visa check card.
