Reasons not to ignore sharpening filters

Recommended Posts

that thing is gonna develop a life of its own one day. lol

our Blackstone Stealths have a decent filter system, but if the tubes aren't properly cleared, sometimes they start smoking... never a good sign.

I've let mine get like that a few times. And as stated before it's just do to laziness. Since I opt to clean mine out I tend to keep putting it off and eventually it builds up so much it looks like a coat of fur. Those filters can be quite heavy when they are saturated in shavings.

Time to go roll that baby around in the parking lot. The part I always hated about the filter is that I was never warned about it...and my clothing isnt all black ever...until after changing it out.

How do you clean your filters...and how often do you change them?

We use an air compressor and blow it clean. Dirty as shit, but it works. And I don't think in my 7 years we've ever put a brand new one in.

They're like what, $120 each? There's that guy out of Ypsilanti who sells 2 for $130.

I've never let it get that bad - if I'm having a lazy moment, I'm at least vacuuming/rolling it over in the machine onto the dust tray and then vacuuming the dust tray clean.

I usually am on a 2-3 filter rotation - pull it out, vacuum and blow out with an air compressor. Swap them out every 3 wks or so for a clean one.

I'm sure your bosses are thrilled to see that you're throwing them and the shop under the bus.

Next time just clean it and keep your cell phone in your pocket.

The machine itself will still run on a dirty filter, but instead of the filter absorbing all that skate dust, it's your lungs that soak it up.
