Blade polishes/oils"special sauce"

Recommended Posts

I remember hearing about some type of oil that you apply to your blades to improve glide. I came across "slick stick" and "gusto glide" while searching online. Are these for actually grinding into your blades while shaprening, or could I use these products on my blades after getting them sharpened? Also does anyone know of any other products? Thanks

The best oil for a skater to apply themselves is Ultra Glide. Comes in a dauber tube. It wears off after a shift, but you can keep on reapplying it. You apply it after sharpening.

The two you mentioned Gusto glide and Slick Stick are wheel dressings to help on the final finish pass of the wheel.

I used to call it astroglide and very few people got the joke. Living in a repressed area sucks.

Tell them to ask their kids - they'd know.

Gusto glide goes on the skate blade on the final pass, not the wheel. I love the stuff though. It helps me get the super shiny mirror finish. Looks sooooo good.

Oils cool down the blade for a smooth finish, waxes coat the edge.

I use oil (Gusto or Fine Shine) right before then I'll use wax for the final. Blackstone's Lube Tube is great, what I keep in the unmarked bottle is better. :)

I'm guessing some sort of magic pixie elixer... skate ambrosia?
