Chipped stick... finish coming off... looking for a more durable stick

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I tried the search but didn't have any luck with the results, so I might as well post? My apologies if this topic has been posted before.

I currently have a Warrior AK27 shaft and I love it. I also play centre, and a lot of the time, the bottom of my shaft gets chipped, scratched, and etc... I found that this shaft seems to get dinged easily. To help with this, I decided to put some tape along the bottom of the shaft so that it doesn't take so much damage, but when I went to take off the tape down there, it seems to peel off the glossy finish and in some cases, peel off all of the paint.

I love this shaft, but I may have to turn to a different shaft. Can anyone make a recommendation for another shaft that may be more durable and resistant to chips and scratches?

Thanks!

I think its just part of the game, really any stick is going to have the paint chipped up but it dosent effect the performance at all.

I think there is a clear wrap that people have used to maintain the finish but I cant remember what it is called I'm sure someone will remember though.

I swear by shaft saver. But as for the graphics chipping off... Who cares just spray paint it. I have not had my graphics chip off when removing shaft saver either. They say to warm up the shaft saver tape before removing so this does not happen or at least as little as possible.

BTW, from the posted link above; it does NOT add a grip feel to your stick and I do not reccomend wrapping the entire shaft. You will want to get 2 rolls becuase it's a tricky process to apply.

Hell, I'd be more worried if my sticks didn't show any signs of chipping or scratches. If the stick isn't breaking why do you care?

If you want gear to look like it just came off the rack, then don't play hockey, or you could just float around and look pretty.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to buy a new stick just cause it's chipping and stuff... I'm planning for my next stick and was wondering if there were any better choices ;)

You can buy a (insert a different brand) stick and no matter what it will still chip and the finish will come off.

Warrior does seem to have some of the worst paint around though, I have two dolos that are half bare and I haven't even played with them.

Thats really ashame... I have not had a Warrior product but have a handfull of Inno's and have had ZERO issues with paint or anything for that matter. I have yet to break a blade or shaft. But I do use shaft saver....... :P

Paint chips are like head trauma... LOL

just a part of growing up!

The use of more durable materials in sticks creates this.

The materials that are used to manufacture sticks are not bonded to by graphics.

You have two choices...

performance or looks.

Your choice.

A buddy of mine always told me my bucket and visor looked "stupid".

I always told him that they looked fine from where I saw them.

He now has a glass eye and several concussions, I have both eyes and my head never felt better!

Paint means nothing, all the major Television networks will forgive you.

paint chipping would be the result of someone hitting my stick.

kick a tree enough times and it will fall over.

Your stick is fine.

I have 2 dolomites that I've been using for 2 years. You can't even see "Warrior" on the shaft anymore. However, no damage whatsoever.

I also have a TPS R2 that I've had since 2004....beaten up with lots of nicks and chips but again no structural damage.

They've been lumberjack hacked, slashed, and stepped on by skates on numerous occasions. I'm actually pretty pissed that they're still going strong because I've been looking for an excuse to buy a new twig (I have controled my gear whoreism as of late).

Unless you wrap your stick with that shaftsaver stuff then ALL sticks/shafts will eventually chip and suffer cosmetic damage. I used to have an ST that had a huge chunk missing in the hosel/fuse point and I was able to use it for another two months before it broke.

:werd: My Synergy SE, from the blade to about 1/4 up the shaft is almost bare carbon from the graphics chipping off, still works like a champ.
