The Fan590 just announced on their 20/20 update that the US & the Team Canada gameday skates were abruptly cancelled b/c of the NHLPA calling a impromptu meeting with the players. Its just speculation, but something could be up.

He is positive that an agreement will be reached before the deadline, however, will go on with the lockout anyway for a week or so. That way, they can lay off employees without guarantee of rehire, then rehire the ones they want back.

It would certianly be good if they could clear out some of the poor refs and linesmen.

Layoffs with severance packages were offered immediately, or immediate layoffs when the CBA expires.

I was under the impression New York was a right to work state and no reason was needed.

It's darn near impossible to fire someone in this day and age unless you don't mind paying lawyers to argue it in court for months.

Not really. Unless they are part of a union or are part of a protected class, then you just have to follow a couple of necessary steps to cover your ass. My wife has to go through this all the time.

Teams have been laying employees off since april, the Stars began right after their short playoff round...I believe they lead the way..

yet at the same time you have people hiring on NHL.com..so what is it...

I'd never say the NHL won't be so stupid to have a protracted lockout, not after they ruined all the momentum of '94...

Both sides are being quite about what was said yesturday! IM curious why the tight lip between the 2 sides... It would be nice to see a new CBA to start off the WCOH!

Even bigger to announce at the end. They only use the publicity to beat each other up and put pressure on the other side. If they're making progress, there's no reason to go public with the details.
