Finally got it!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Just a short blurb about how I found the right stick for me. After MUCH experimenting (and a whole wad of $$), finally admitted to myself I couldn't properly load the sticks I was using (Easton 85 flex, Bauer 87). I'm 5 ft 10 in tall, 150 lbs, and not the strongest. I basically only use wrist- and snapshots during games.

Anyhow, got the new TPS Response R8 shaft with whip flex and inserted an Easton Stealth S15 blade - WOW!!! Pucks flying off with zip, so consistent!

Thank you to all forum inputers for valuable info!

I'm glad to hear ya found it, I used 110flex sticks for years, even at your weight and I recently switched to 85flex and my slapshot just isn't there anymore, I never could load my stick under wrist shots because they were so stiff, and I still can't. I may just go back up to 100 and say screw it next time cause I don't think I could go any lower.

When I was younger I actually never even looked at the flex.. I never realized how much of a difference it made

I'm 6' 200lbs and I switch between an 87 and a 100

It's amazing how many times a softer flex is the right answer

just like golf.... your testosterone is your worst enemy. remember the big blow up on flexes here about 2 years ago??? what's really amazing is how much misinformation is out there. a puck weighs 5.5 oz and yet guys go and get a 110 flex and bear in to the ice like the puck is 300 lbs ( and then complain that their blades don't last ). slapshots are stupid easy with softer flexes, passing is WAAAY better, and wrist/snap is MONEY. Chadd has said this many times before and i agree-- it's more about form.

It doesn't help that a lot of sticks aren't close to what they're marked.

it certainly does not help in the least. funny how Easton used the S17 Elliptical shape to make flexes softer. i have always liked the TPS Whip and the Innovative 340-440.

Having an 80 flex stick that is marked as 100 is an issue as well.

I finally got what feels like an honest to God 75 flex...marked 340 on the inside of my Dolomite. Just enough flex for me to load up in traffic but just stiff enough so that my shots are going where I want. This is after the 100-flex feeling Bauer 77, 65-flex feeling Mission 75, 65-flex feeling TPS whip, 70-flex feeling Easton 70, and 85-flex feeling Warrior 315.

I'm starting to recommend to my friends and teammates flexes based on height and stick length. I really think that's more important than your weight. A 5'8" guy who weighs 175 and a 6'2" guy who weighs 175 could have a difference of 15-20 flex when the stick is cut down, even if the short guy is stronger.
