Denis Savard has been fired as coach of the Chicago Blackhawks, ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun reported.

The Blackhawks, who are expected to contend this season behind young stars Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, have started 1-2-1. They picked up their first win Wednesday night against the Phoenix Coyotes.

Also, thinking youre going to be a contender and relying on 2 sophmores to carry the load, come on. A bit soon I think.

Well, the hawks picked up 3 out of 4 points in their last 2 games.

However, Huet and Khabibulin had been alternating starts and Huet was brought in to be the starter.

He was just on XM and was asked if he thought that had anything to do with it, and he responded with "coaches coach and managers manage" or something to that effect. So perhaps he was falling out of favor because of his personnel choices.

But that is purely speculation on my part and I have absolutely nothing with which to back it up

Its too early in the season for this...especially after they just got a win. I don't like this move.

I love Savard and am not a fan of this move at all. I understand why they're doing it, they want an experienced guy because they need to make the playoffs this year. Quenville is a very good coach, so it's hard to criticize bringing him in overall.

That has been the case since the summer. Campbell? Lang gone? Huet in? Very confusing series of transactions.

That said, let's continue this in the 'Hawks season topic.
