Felt Tounges

Recommended Posts

If you got a PIAS near you, go in and buy a pair of cheapo skates that have white felt toungues on them. Take them off the cheapo skates and put them on yours. Cheaper then to buy the ones on EWH.

A friend of mine got some tounges from the Norfolk Admirals sale, but thats the only other place around where i live. Asking the local dealer is a good idea though. thanks

Good thread.

Yup, I'd sell one of my children (okay, maybe just the dog) to get my hands on the new white/black CCM tongues that JR has in his U+ skates. I'm sure they are only available through a custom skate order though.

What say you, JR?

Speaking of tongues, does anyone have a pic of the white face/white felt tongues from EWH? I've only seen the black face/white felt tongues. I basically know what they would look like, I just want to see them.

I have the tounges from EWH, there nice but the tailor stitched them in wrong.

Those tongues are more of a vinyl or synthetic material than true leather, correct? Are they 'thick enough' to protect against lace bite?

Any insight is appreciated!

I bought the white felt supreme tounges from EWH about this time last year. I had them put in a pair of Pro Stock 7000. They are very thick and are quite protective. They look identical to other supreme tounges minus the graphics

I talked to EWH the other day, i was going to ship them a pair of our customers skates to get done. Not too bad of a price, $50 for the tongues plus $25 to install them. They told me where they get their tongues from but i forget now.. I've sent several inquiries to both CCM and Bauer custom depts asking them if i can order some custom tongues only and i havent received a response yet

I'll make sure to post pics of my One95's with the custom white/white tongues (from EWH) as soon as I get them back. They are nice and seem to be pretty thick. Unfortunately it was an expensive side project, 50 bucks for the tongues and 40 for installation at a shop over an hour from me. I went to numerous cobblers and local hockey shops and no one was willing to install them. Apparently this is a skill many do not practice.

I am only worried that the thicker tongue will reduce the depth of the skate, which I need as much as I can get. This will only last unil the tongue has been broken in. I ordered a size up in case I want to fold them out. Should be nice to see them on the skate.

When i got my tounges put in I noticed it was much tighter to my foot so their wasnt as much depth as before. But it's okay, because my one95's just came in. :D

I just ordered a pair of the tongues, and the left and right labeled ?

They should be...mine from EWH were labeled in marker "L" and "R"...just make sure whoever installs them knows that! Mine were sewn in wrong.

Zwicker's in Bedford installs tongues. It's about a 1/2 hour drive from West Roxbury. I believe they charge $20.

I've been using the tongues from east west for a long time now in my ice and inline boots. I'm actually probably going to order a couple more pair tomorrow for my new inlines and my old white 9k's.

I remember growing up all my skates (ccm then graf in college) came with white felt tongues.... ahhh, the good Ol' days

Oh, and the local shoe repair guy installed each pair for $10!

This local shop up here has a box FULL of the same ones that EWH has in white/white and white/black long and short. They are like $60 installed:

They do an awesome job and they make the skate look like they came that way from the factory. Im still deciding whether to peddle my Ovies, cause I cant bring myself to wear them they are so rad lol

There is a plastic (sometimes foam ) piece inside the tongue that usually will adapt to the foldover over time or carefully with a heatgun. When they are long like that, its pretty easy for them to stay out. You can also just tape them down when you arent wearing them, I know alot of guys who do that.
