Favorite Toe Curve?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have a favorite Toe Curve type stick? I'm starting to like these again. I've been tinkering around with a Naslund curve.

I've seen those. I saw a Warrior Kovalchuk at a LHS the other day..I was tempted to pick the blade up and put it in one of my unused Warrior shafts

You should pick it up and sell it here. You'd probably be surprised at the amount of offers I get for stuff like that.

I'd be greedy and keep it for myself. I only sell items I clearly dont want hahaha unless my GF makes me reduce the number of sticks etc I have since I keep all my gear in my son's play area.

At this point, it's only right to be greedy. The "waiting list" is soo long that I'd have to sell all of my blades to get everyone a blade. Plus considering I haven't seen any, it's just smart to keep a stockpile... despite me almost exclusively using my U+ for the past 2 months.

...But we're getting off topic. :)

Just picked up a sherwood 5030 "stastny(sp?)" just to mess around with, as I am a heel curve guy, but it was fun scooping that puck with wristers. But imagine a straight blade (very long and tall) with a massive kink on the last 1/4 of the blade. It is pretty nasty

Are you talking retail warrior Kovalchuk or pro stock?

Anyways i enjoy using the warrior Smyth retail pattern..if i had access to a lot of pro curves i would probably try something else.

Shanahan, hands down.

I wish they still made them/I could find one.

I only used a Shanahan briefly, but I remember liking it. Wish I held onto that blade. Reminded me of my Weight but you shoot more off the toe instead of middle.

If I could find a damn koivu pro stock I'd be in heaven. I'm thinking about getting that procurve machine and making my own toe curves.

So is a toe curve more suited to snap shots and such compared to a regular mid curve? I know that curves are generally personal preference, but is there a reason why a lot of the Russians use a toe curve?

The only real benefit I have found is puckhandling and shoveling a puck high from in close with a little flick. It feels like half the effort to roof a puck from less than 4" off the goal line, great for getting it over the goalies pad when you don't have time to pull it out. I find slap shot timing is slightly more difficult(learnable of course) but I rarely take slap shots so, that doesn't matter to me.

Despite what you'd think, I find that my backhand suffers. I've noticed that I have a more accurate backhand with a heel curve, like a drury or lidstrom.

But to be fair, the ones you have are freaking bananas.

Personally I like the pro Rafalski (I need to bump the lie up a couple points though). It is basically a junior sized Shanahan. Someday I am going to get some customs made...someday...

when i used a toe curve, i thought it gave a quicker release on my snpa shot because i only needed to use the toe instead of the entire blade.. but thats just me..

I have a bunch of them, including 2 different patterns that are almost straight with a kink. You're forgetting about the Delmore blade and the Mission blades.
