Helmet Question(Removing decals)

Recommended Posts

Easier and more cost effective than trying to find electrical tape in the right color.

Not all helmets are black.

Edit - General comment, obviously, as the OP's helmet is indeed black.

Nail polish remover and some elbow grease.

Nail polish remover can damage your helmet. I really wish people would stop suggesting chemical solutions.

i used goof-off... worked well.

but try dabbing t on a small part first to make sure it doesnt take off the finish

Again, not a good solution

Correct Chadd not only not a good solutions but voids warranty and CSA in Canada. If a helmet has had these Chemicals used on it the CSA certification is no longer valid.

A good alternative to "Goo-Gone" and crap like that is good old fashioned malaleuca oil, or tea tree oil to get gummy residue from stickers off sticks.... I personally wouldn't put it on a helmet though. Just keep applying water to the labels and good old elbow grease with a towel.

Wow, you guys haven't figured out the easiest way to take them off?

Simple.

Heat.

Just heat it up with a heat gun, it all comes off with ease.

I've taken off all of my certification stickers that way.

what do the pros use?

If you look at players on the wings that use a bauer helmet(5500-9500) the black adjustment tabs on the side of the helmet look like they have some sort of tape on it. It doesn't look like electrical but i may be wrong.

i guess i should have looked at the link above first! That looks like it may be it.

My bad - I didn't know nail polish remover could do any damage.

But for what it's worth, it worked well for me.

They are shipped w/ logoless tabs (5500/8500)

The rest of the helmets come logoless.

gotcha.... it always looked like they were taped over with something since you can still see the black outline of the tab. It's more evident on the draper's 5500 but couldn't find a good picture.

Why would you take off the Certifaction stickers?

Thats how you can claim for injury if you are wearing it properly and such?

When I got my Bauer 5000 about 6 years ago I saw the pros had no logo on the taps so I just took black hockey tape and covered the logo, all in the name of wanting to be like a pro.

I dont think thats true, It looks to me like they are painted because Drapers and sameulsons (before sammy switched to reebok) always looked chipped and you could see black underneath

what about Mission logos? will heat take those off as well? i'd prefer not to tape or paint over it, any suggestions
