My cat pissed in my roomies bag!

Recommended Posts

So my cat pissed in my roommates hockey bag and it smells something AWFUL! Anybody had this happen and know a good cleaning regimen? I feel really bad and want to rectify this situation.

I recommend finding someone that will take your cat if you care about its existence. If someone had a cat do that to my stuff it is being put in one of those dog pound drop-offs.

is that like the hospitals in nebraska, or the 'back alley' pounds?

It was a little brick/stone building that had a sliding drawer, like a UPS/USPS mail box. It slid into the room and people would put abandoned dogs in there. Little weirdos started thinking it would be fun to put cats in there with the dogs.

NOK-Out -- it's an anti-odor spray that every vet I know swears by. That and some 60% isopropyl alcohol saturation should do it.

be a good sport and buy him a new bag. it's almost impossible to get the smell of cat piss out of something, and to wash his bag like crazy would just ruin it

1. Buy him a new bag. Cat piss smell is permanent.

2. He was an idiot for leaving the bag in a house with a cat. I would get rid of the roomie, not the cat.

Law is correct.......Nok-Out is the only cleaner that stands a chance at cleaning the smell out. But it will take a few applications. Bacon has given the golden shower to a few things around the house and it did the trick......he is lucky he wasn't turned into a bath mat.

This happened to my skates- (over a year ago)

For the skates-

take the insoles out of the skate after every time he uses it

get new laces

dry skates on a "skate dryer" after every time he uses them. (i made my own with pvc piping and a decorateive inflatable fan motor)

also, stuff called PeePee remover at home depot helps out, but does not banish it for good

New bag would probably be cheaper than anything else. Check Craigslist?

If the gear was soaked, I would soak them in a tub with detergent and Oxyclean, drain, repeat, drain, rinse very well, and see how it goes. If it still smells, try a sports gear cleaner place.

Its not the cats fault, he or she was just doing what its designed to do.

First buy him a new bag and throw the old bag out quickly.

Second clean the area the bag was in very well, like surgery well. Use bleach if necessary. The cat will pee their again to freshen up the spot if they can detect that it is was a previous marking area.

Third try cleaning the gear at home, if this doesn't work send it to a sanitizing shop.

Fourth, ask him nicely not to leave his gear out where your cat can get at it. Since the cat peed on it, his gear must have smelled pretty bad to begin with. A cat's brain is about 2" in size, anyone should be able to keep the cat from peeing on their stuff.

If you don't get the smell out of the entire area chances are the cat may return to that spot. Even if you can't smell it the cat certainly will. In my 'anti-icky poo' from Mister Max works the best:

http://www.mistermax.com

It's an ezymatic cleaner, so it sort of advances the decay of the things in cat pee that make it smell, and kills it so the cat can't smell it again.

My son told me this happened to a kid on one of his teams a number of years ago. The guy had to get a new bag and some new equipment. He was also mercilessy ridiculed as you can well imagine.
