Goal announcements

Recommended Posts

Watching the Sens-Rangers on CBC...when Ottawa scored...the announcer said:

"Ottawa goal scored by #11...Daniel..." and then crowd yelled "Alfredson"

He did the same thing the Winchester goal...Didn't see the Spezza goal in the First.

Have they been doing it this way for long? I've never heard that before.

The Whalers playing "Brass Bonanza" after goals would count as a neat tradition. Well, at least up until 1997.....

I don't know if that was a "neat" tradition. I don't think it even sounded like a sports song at all. IMO

I think there are better ones in college.

Yeah. At my school the whole crowd stands after a goal, holding up fingers for what goal it was, after the announcer announces the goal the tuba from the band blows a low note for each goal the crows counts off, then everyone does a chant, then proceeds to yell obscenities at the opposing goalie.

Oh college hockey, if only they served beer.

Michigan Tech, D1 WCHA

This is our rink, the band is on the end opposite what's shown, right of the camera. It's not the greatest arena, but we have 6,000 students and a local population that's roughly double that. 4,200 seats.

I'd hate to see an 11 goal game.

I like BU's goal cheer:

band plays their song, then it's: "[expletive] 'em up, [expletive] 'em up, BC sucks SIEVE!" once for each goal

always BC sucks no matter what team they're playing

Maybe not a tradition, but I really miss the old Maple Leaf Gardens PA guy, Paul Morris. He had a nasally, monotone voice and he never got excited. Every goal, even OT winners in the playoffs, were announced completely matter-of-fact. The Leafs could have won a Cup and he would have announced it just like it was pre-season game.

That guy was old school. I miss him.

The Red Wings' PA guy is like that. Same tone of voice - between a Wings goal and an visitors' goal.

It's the way it should be, just like Bob Sheppard at Yankees games = the three C's - clear, concise, correct.

And that's why I hate BU, can't get over the fact that BC is just better even when they're up by 6.

The bruins guy gives a a whoo! after he reads the scoring for a bruins goal.

I think it's a recording, they play it on commercials and stuff too.

I believe that is a recording of Rick Flair saying WHOOO!

I actually don't mind it and I don't like a lot of the extra crap at pro sporting events. My favorite is when I get to go to the NCAA regional. The bands and the passion of each schools fans make it a great atmosphere.

You should go to the Beanpot, much more intense.

Even the Beanpot is overrated, IMO. The last 8-10 years its gone from die-hards to the corporate types (just like Fenway). A place like Northeastern's Matthews Arena or UVM's Gutterson Field House for a big game are better than the Beanpot for straight-up crowd involvement.

I was able to go once. It is truly awesome. I only wish I was able to see it at the old garden.

Oh, don't you worry, I'm an upper-decker for the Beanpot. I'm just spoiled 'cause my team has been going to Frozen Fours, that's all :P

Whenever the University of Toronto scores, in the pale silence afterward, you can always hear the Zamboni driver saying to the trainer, "I told you they'd do it this year."
