greech 4 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 Hockey's not all about individuals-that's why our game is better than any other. There's no need for any 'ocho-cincos' in our game.

chippa13 1844 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 Hockey has plenty of nicknames other than they "ie" or "er" attached to a name. They just aren't self promoting buffoons who market them for their own benefit.
RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 I get 'Mattie' a lot. Or 'Baz' (shortened last name)...but to show how comfortable people get with names....after hockey last week we were at the bar...and one of the guys I play with introduces me to a friend of his "This is Mattie..." Bar was kinda loud...she looks at me and goes "Maddie???" I go "No, Matt...they just call me Mattie"

mrusse01 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 All you do is shorten the last name a little and add an "s" or an "er".Compared to what? The most common nickname in the NBA or NFL right now is to just take a guy's initials/number, i.e. LT (which is stolen from the original LT). As far as baseball, I can't even really think of any current stars that have a nickname besides guys like A-Rod or Big Papi (which is a cool nickname I think just because I love how announcers actually refer to him as 'Papi'.
