GTHL_AAA_HOCKEY 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2004 If you're watching CBC right now, they were talking about sticks, and Hull said his stick is a 62 easton flex

Fonya 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2004 Thats crazy. I know its not impossible but wouldnt it be pretty hard not to snap a 62 flex during a slapshot?
Chadd 916 Report post Posted March 28, 2004 Hull uses a different technique than most people. It's not about swinging the stick as hard as you can.
Vapor 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2004 Hull uses a different technique than most people. It's not about swinging the stick as hard as you can. I saw a special on how he shoots, so in the next session I had on ice, I tried to mimic what he did, and I didn't come close :) Very hard to do.
Dan_The_Man_16 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2004 It's Brett Hull his dad tought him how to shoot since he was little. No one shoots like him or probably every will be able to shoot like him, so don't take this the wrong way or anything, but we may as well stop trying. Chadd 916 Report post Posted March 28, 2004 I used to use Easton 100 flex or stiff flex sticks and I find that I have a better shot with a 90, 260 or TPS R flex now. Letting the stick do some of the work really does help.
Dan_The_Man_16 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2004 There is a differance between letting the stick do some of the work and all of the work. Most people will never be able to master letting the stick do all of the work.
rh_joel 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2004 I seem to be able to switch between about 70-100 flex fine. The only thing that is a bit strange with using really whippy sticks is when they flex when stickhandling.
akhockeyplaya 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2004 i dont think ive ever noticed a stick flex during stickhandling. at least not so much that it affected my stickhandling to a large degree.
Shorthanded67 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2004 I never noticed it either until trying a Hull Custom. I could feel it bend stickhandling a lightweight roller hockey puck. Very strange feel indeed.
steve66 45 Report post Posted March 28, 2004 I find that the 'noodle' feel in the shaft when puckhandling with a whippy stick just feels awful. I used to use an 85 for roller hockey a few years ago, but even back then on ice it was horrid. I tried to go back to it recently and i'm much bigger and stronger now, i didn't like the feel of it too much. But my shooting technique just wasn't suited to the whip as i felt most of my energy was being wasted... but yeah hull's technique is geared to those whippy shafts.... hink its fair to say try what others do, but in the end use what works for yourself. PiKappaPhi 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2004 there is nothing like feeling the stick loading up and then ripping a hard shot. I guess its party of my nature to do as little as possible to try and get good results.

I guess its party of my nature to do as little as possible to try and get good results. I'm amazed by how much I love this whip flex. Every slapshot I take feels like a bomb. Or at least more of a bomb than turd I used to sling.
