Vishi05 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2009 The reason why I posted this thread also was because I have an idea for an elbow pad design, I bought the stuff to make a prototype but have been kind of lazy about doing it. It really should cut down on any slipping and give increased flexability if it works.

Tikkanen 1 Report post Posted March 22, 2009 They are football elbow pads. They're very minimal, check hockey giant.I wouldn't use them for hockey.Either would I but if you're looking for minimal protection I guess that should be OK. Basically a few foam blocks in a nylon sleeve. I took a slap shot directly to my S17 elbow pad last week, probably would have shattered my elbow in the Farrells. TBLfan 25 Report post Posted March 22, 2009 I got slew-footed and felt my elbow hit in my pro stock Jofas... I think those farrells are just dangerous to wear, they aren't going to protect you at all. A good 3-piece elbow and possibly going down a size would probably be better for those that have slippage/mobility issues.

There like wearing nothing at all, ive been on the same pair for 3 years and there still brand new, great strap system that queer rubber thing, then it has the grip print all on the inside and the zoom air elbow piece, ive taken some tumbles over the years and i dont feel anything. tony1233 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2009 I personally wear a pair of NikeBauer supreme 30's and I find that they don't offer much protection when I fall down (which sure is alot! lol) I'm more of an enforcer, or grinder type of guy.. so I also like to roll the sleeves of my jersey up on to my elbow pads and I find with the small pads they keep falling down over and for some reason I can't have anything on my forearm... lol monkey see monkey do I guess.. a guy on my local senior team does his the same way. If anyone knows of a bulkier pad that I can get for a fairly low price could you let me know please! I spent 200 on a helmet and jersey today, spending 300 on skates very soon so my buget is a bit small for the time being lol.
ncbrock 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2009 Have not worn elbow pads in over 2 years now, I can't deal with how restrictive elbow pads are, I can't shoot or stickhandle like I can without them. I don't play contact hockey anymore, so I don't really feel the need to use elbow pads.I feel the same way. I never use elbow pads except in travel tournaments because the refs always get me without them, ive been going for 2 years without using them and have never gotton hit in the arm with a puck or fell on my elbows, so until that day comes and i get seriously injured, im not wearing them :D
bigsnake76 2 Report post Posted March 26, 2009 Jofa's, been wearing em 15 years, never even notice they are on my arm and the are protective as hell.
fawn111 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2009 The pads I wear are Bauer's but they are more like the football pads.... very minimal, but I am not playing any contact hockey..... Actually, never wore them playing inline, just never really fell all that much, but since i started playing ice and not being a great ice skater to begin with, I fell the second day I was out there and ended up with a bump the size of a golf ball on the elbow.... went out and got some padding.... though just did not see the need for the full elbow cup models....have fallen several times right on the elbow and did not feel anything with the skinny Bauers... not sure what model, buy they are pretty old for sure
matix218 11 Report post Posted March 31, 2009 I have been using middle of the line easton elbows for years and that is one piece of equipment that I literally never even notice I am wearing. If anyone is finding elbow pads annoying it is probably because you have the wrong size (most likely too big) and they are moving around on you. If they are properly fitted you will never know they are there.
LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted March 31, 2009 I've had my current elbow pads (Easton Z-Airs) since I was 12 or 13...they're currently being held together by approximately 1/2 a roll of tape each and are so broken-down that I barely notice them on - but they still offer protection. The only real problem is the fact that all that tape can make it a bit of a chore to slip them on/off - which means that they're almost impossible to get rid of in a fight. Luckily, I don't fight too often.I will say that I don't like skating without my shin guards on. I skate just as well without them, but it just FEELS awkward. I actually unzip the legs on my warm-up pants and wear my shin guards when I'm working at the summer clinics/camps. For some reason I just feel more comfortable with them on. XLII 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2009 I ended up in wearing my Lacrosse Arm Guards (Brine Ventilator Pro), because I like them much more than any Hockey Elbow Pad I used over the last 17 years.
furlanitalia 1 Report post Posted March 31, 2009 I don't hate wearing elbow pads, but I hate the design of every pad out there. I have vapor 4's that are barely clinging to life and I don't know what I'll do when they're gone because I can't stand (not that I've ever worn) the newer design of two pieces (bicep pad, elbow+forearm as opposed to bicep, elbow, forearm)
DCott 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2009 I ended up in wearing my Lacrosse Arm Guards (Brine Ventilator Pro), because I like them much more than any Hockey Elbow Pad I used over the last 17 years.Same here, just ditched the hockey elbows and tried some lax elbow pads I had lying around. Lax elbows are great, especially for non check. They may lack in hard plastic caps and such, but they are very mobile, comfortable, and have good coverage for forearms and biceps (great if you don't wear shoulder pads.
