RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted September 8, 2004 So, the Olympics are done and judges ruining otherwise well played, well matched sporting events are over for 2 years until the Winter Games, right...wrong!Did anyone else see the replay of the call that ref/judge made in the Capriati/Williams match? The back judge called it correctly (in) and she over ruled her and called it out. That was after she had missed a call earlier in the match as well.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted September 8, 2004 who got the benefit of the call?
RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted September 8, 2004 Sorry....I left out some of the details....It was early in the match...Williams hit it, it was in...but called out...it would have been Deuce, Capriati got the ADV and ended up winning the Set. Wiliams broke the 2nd and Capri won the Match in 3 sets. (I think I've got that all right)Serena said later that she can't blame the bad call on the loss, but the call was definately wrong. John Mc was saying that the judge would probably be suspended for it. He was pretty lit up over it.

nyhockey6 1 Report post Posted September 8, 2004 I work at the open as a photographer's assistant and I usually sit on court and it is brutal how many calls get blown. Stuff that should be in is called out and stuff that is out is called in. Most of the time it's not even overuled by the Umpires, they just let it go. It is a crappy way to win if you get helped out by a bad call but I'm glad to see Serena get knocked out. Her and her sister both have attitude problems, I've seen them do some just plain rude things to kid asking for autographs and even the ballpersons

Eman24dx 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2004 Yea Ive heard very bad things about serena like her flipping out on a hotel worker for following proper procedures and not giving her "special" treatment.
Eazy_b97 1 Report post Posted September 8, 2004 I heard the opposite. I heard that the Williams sisters are the nices on the tour and they go out of their way to be polite to the ball people, surprised the hell out of me to hear it though.
Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2004 Man imagine that poor hotel worker having a Williams sister bearing down on you like a Gorilla on heat! I'd run, scared witless; If I was having that sort of heat bought down on me. Lleyton is in the Semi's yet again, C'MONNNNNNNN!
LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted September 8, 2004 That ball was well inside the line. I didn't watch much of the match last night, and I didn't catch the point until I saw it later on the USA review show. That ball wasn't even close to being close to going out. If I were Serena, I would have that chair ump lynched. Shit, she could probably have it done.

If I were Serena, I would have that chair ump lynched. Shit, she could probably have it done. Local news here said that the Umpire for that match had been fired by the US Open. Funny how Serena acted when told by the press she no longer was a rebel without a cause!
thejackal 46 Report post Posted September 9, 2004 The whole grunting and groaning thing is getting really old. It is annoying but actually helps with not cramping up and firing your shots everywhere in tennis. I don't do it often when I play but I find it does help. In boxing you are taught that if you exhale when you punch you are getting the most out of every punch efficiency wise. Maybe its the same principal. How many of you would exhale at the point of contact on your slap shots?PS: Hewitt has moved through the semis!.....C'MONNNNNNNNNNNNN!

It is annoying but actually helps with not cramping up and firing your shots everywhere in tennis. I don't do it often when I play but I find it does help. All it really does is help keep the timing of hitting the ball consistent, which, in turn, causes better accuracy because you know you'll hit it the same every time. I don't know about the cramping thing, though. I don't see how it could help that.
