HattrickSwayze 3 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 I'm thinking about buying some new pants with more hip protection. I'm wearing Mission Fuel 90's right now. They're really comfy and all, but if I fall on my hip, the padding is never in the right spot. I'm getting a little tired of taking a spill and bruising my hips. Is any brand in specific more protective in the hip area, or are the high end pants all pretty protective? I've been eyeballing some of the pro stock pants that The Hockey Shop has, since the local Play it Again only has a few pants in my size. I'm contemplating a drive up there for a day to spend a bunch of money and check them out. What's the protection like on them? Also, does anyone know what the old Cooper HP1000 and HP900 pants are like? I'm contemplating picking up a cheap red set for pick ups and stuff, but I don't know what the quality and protection and stuff is like.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 Tackla 9000 or 5000
HattrickSwayze 3 Report post Posted April 11, 2009 I saw some Tackla's at the Play it Again today, but they were EXPP 44's or 55's, can't remember which. Where do those rank with the 9000's or 5000's? I also checked out some CCM's and NBH pants. The thing I'm wondering is whether the spot I keep bruising is a bad spot for my pants, or if it's a hard place to protect in all pants. It's on the backside of my hip bone, basically between the tailbone padding and the hip padding. It always shifts out of the way when I fall, and I've had a bruise there lots of times. Will the more protective pants cover that area, or is it a hard spot to cover? The Sande "The Show" pants look interesting, but I haven't heard much about the quality/protection of them. Leafsrule16 5 Report post Posted April 11, 2009 Tackla 9000 airs are the most mobile pants ive ever worn but they have great protection, the vapor xxxx's are pretty good too there a bit beefier. Any high end pant from a known manufacturer would be fine really, try on all the higher end pants and see what you can move in the best.

HattrickSwayze 3 Report post Posted April 11, 2009 Found a set of new Air 9000 Pro's on eBay in my size for $40. It says they're Made in Canada, so who knows whether it's the overseas model or not. They're not the color I want, but I'll live.

I find the 9000's are the best combination of protection and mobility and for $40 thats a deal you wont be able to beat, jump on it.
HattrickSwayze 3 Report post Posted April 12, 2009 Yeah I already bought them. I figured if I don't like them I'll either sell them on here or just use them for pick-ups and stuff. They're maroon in color, and I was gonna get a cheap pair of red Coopers (about the same price) for pick-ups anyways. I've got a thing for red pants, so this sort of kills two birds with one stone. We'll see how they feel when I get them.I might have to have someone sew in leg zippers though. I like playing with the pants open.

bigsnake76 2 Report post Posted April 12, 2009 Why not go for some pro stock pants on ebay? Maybe a easton pant, from what I've seen they are tanks. Any pro stock pant is going to have more protection than any retail pant minus Tackla's.... IMO.

Chadd 916 Report post Posted April 13, 2009 warrior hustlers seem to bee good for meThe Warriors are nice but lack the hinged thigh pad. That makes them feel a bit more bulky there and it takes much longer to break in.

gxc999 7 Report post Posted April 13, 2009 How do the vector 10's compare with the tackla 9000/5000s in the hip/glute protectiveness area?
duch 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2009 If you want to stick to a North American brand the Vector 10 or Easton S17 would be a good alternative. Both have very decent all round protection. The fit is slightly different from the Tacklas but those two would be a good bet and their probably more readily available in a LHS.

I dont know why you woudlnt go tackla, the 9000 air has the same protection as any other high end pant with the mobility and a great fit.

HattrickSwayze 3 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 I got my Tackla Air 9000's and used them yesterday. The protection is amazing in them. They make my Mission 90's look like a pair of swim shorts. Mobility and fit were both really good too. But regardless of how solid the padding is, I still found the same soft spot on my hip. I guess this is just an impossible area to protect without interfering with stride/mobility. Whatever, I'll live.
