Vapor vs. Supreme

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I was looking at the new Bauer stuff, and I thought I knew the difference between the Vapor and Supreme lines, but it is a little grey in some areas.

Wheels:

Vapor- Higher arch, narrower foot, for more of a power stride

Supreme - Wider, for longer strides

Twigs:

Vapor- A stick handlers stick, more for feel

Supreme- More of a shooting stick

Protective:

Vapor: Made bigger

Supreme: More of a snug fit

Gloves:

Vapor: Tapered cuff, tighter fit

Supreme: Anatomical fit

Pants/Girdles:

Vapor:?

Supereme:?

I know that probably isnt too accurate... so feel free to correct my assumptions.

Also is Bauer going to bring out a new classic or pro defender line?

Cheers.

It's less about targeting a piece of equipment to a purpose than just getting two different lines out there. Vapor skates are more traditional, the Supreme line is newer materials with a different foot shape. Together they can get 75% of buyers into one of their skates based on fit. One or the other probably won't screw you up if they have the same runners and they both fit.

Try what they've got on and see if it fits and works for you. The offer bulky (4-roll), snug (Suprme) and slim (Vapor) lines with top-end models of gloves so they can sell more based on people's preferences for fit.

Hey guys,

I was looking at the new Bauer stuff, and I thought I knew the difference between the Vapor and Supreme lines, but it is a little grey in some areas.

Wheels:

Vapor- Higher arch, narrower foot, for more of a power stride-Both seem to fit about the same volume/size-wise

Supreme - Wider, for longer strides-Both seem to fit about the same volume/size-wise

Twigs:

Vapor- A stick handlers stick, more for feel-Lower kickpoint

Supreme- More of a shooting stick-Higher kickpoint, more energy loading

Protective:

Vapor: Made bigger

Supreme: More of a snug fit

Gloves:

Vapor: Tapered cuff, tighter fit

Supreme: Anatomical fit

Pants/Girdles:

Vapor:?

Supereme:?

I believe some of those are flipped.

Supreme equipment is designed for a power stride while Vapor is for agility. Again, this is just where they market each line.

So by the sounds of it the skates, sticks, and glove do have some differences but outside of that most of it is marketing, in terms of the protective and pants.

I'm looking at getting some new stuff (shouldies, pants), play in a beer league, want more mobility, and dont want to look bulky out there. Does one line (vapor or supreme) look smaller then another, or does it all look the same.

Other than skate fit, that is the difference. Most kids buy the stuff that is marketed at the type of player they perceive themselves to be.

That's pretty much where I am. I'm a decade from the last time I've really played and my stuff needs replacing. I want something that's fairly light, mobile but still protective (I've got a day job, ya know!). I know its a tradeoff, but I don't want bulky either. I did pick up a pair of Vapor XXXX shin pads and the difference in size between them and the Reeboks (9ks and the new 10ks) was enormous. My shins looked like my thighs in the Reeboks. LOL. I found the Vapor elbow pads to be pretty bulky. I used to wear Cooper Techniflex stuff and found that line used to be perfect for my needs. Too bad it all molded.....

3 years ago, I was in a very similar situation as you were, I came back to playing hockey after about 8 years and most of my stuff (shoulder, shin pads, pants and gloves) were Cooper techniflex stuff. I decided that since I'm older now the thing I wanted the most was protection and although most of the stuff are bulkier than the stuff I used to use, I've found the newer stuff with the new technology and design to be not all that restrictive and pretty mobile.

I was under the impression that Vapor was wider than Supreme. Does any have a definite answer?

I believe it has flip-flopped over the years. The 8090's were narrow, and so were the xx's and xxx's and one90's. The one95 is a little wider in the forefoot and I can't comment on the X:60's as I haven't worn them.

Check out the Warrior protective, the elbows and shoulders are very nice.

I've seen them, but never tried them on. They fit fairly well? They're pleasing to the eye

They didn't have my size at the show but even the smaller sizes seemed to work pretty well
