Need help, on the hunt for new pants

Recommended Posts

I'm not really wanting to dish out $100+ on pants so I'm turning to my Mod Squad gear freaks to help me sort through the tons and tons of mid range pants on the market. I don't play in a checking league but things can get a little rough sometimes. I'm very wishful with the features versus cost, I know. If I'm expecting too much from my price range I'll put off the purchase longer and work to put more money in my hockey budget :D I don't play in a checking league but things can get a little rough sometimes.

1) Leg Zippers.

2) Better tailbone protection than my Jofa 5000's.

3) Hopefully a better belt system than the Jofa's or I'll just use suspenders.

4) $50 - $80.

The only way you'll score pants with that feature set in the given price range is by looking for closeouts.

You may want to take a look at the WinnWell stuff being blown out by hockeyworld.com. I ordered a pair of the G-Lite pants for buddy and they had solid protection, a modern fit and adjustment system, and were super light... My only issue with them is that the shell and mesh material didn't look too durable. If you only play once or twice a week, these might be worth looking into if they have any left in your size.

There's other WinnWell branded models but I can't speak for their quality as I haven't seen them in person.

Also, I whore these all over MSH, a closeout Mission pant may be in your price range, and it's a pretty good pant especially if you can score it for cheap.

i bought a pair of the WinnWell pro stock pants from hockeyworld.com during their blow out and they are very nice, havent used them yet, but they got nice belt system, zippers, and a nice amount of padding all over it seems.. and for 50 bucks i cant complain.. they fit a lil snug, atleast the size i ordered did, but they seem really comfortable so maybe check those out.

Missions are a good call, thanks for that.

TBLfan, maybe it's just the search strings I'm using but I have a ridiculously difficult time finding stuff on eBay.

I have two options for you, and I have experience with both...

1) Franklin THT HP 7800

2) Winwell Pro Stock

Both can be purchased from Hockey World, and both are well under $80. I played the last 3+ years in the Franklins and loved them. Zippered legs, excellent protection, good belt closure. I play 3 - 4 times a week in high level gents as a D, so I block my fair share of shots. They held up surprisingly well.

I just got the Winwells as a replacement and have yet to play in them, but they seem great. Lots of protection, easy to move in and a nice belt closure. I am playing in a tournament starting tomorrow night so they will see their first action.

In my opinion, either of these two would be great, considering their price...

FYI, on the hockeyworld site, the Winwells are just listed as Pro Stock hockey pants.

I got Tackla 4400 from National Sports for $90 3 months ago. If you can find them, they are an excellent pants that offer everything you're looking for. Also consider the Tackla 951, they may not be in your price range.

I just picked up a pair of Easton Stealth S7 pants from totalhockey.net and I absolutely love them. Very comfortable and they seem to have all the necessary protection although I can't vouch for that 100% because I only play drop-in.

This is an old thread but for anyone looking for pants checkout GRAF they are on closeout at Total hockey if you are okay with blue or red.

If you want to get a pair of pants that will last a long time and become extremely comfortable with use, go with Tackla.

I probably will not need another pair of breezers for 15 yrs

Anyone know if McKenney pants are any good?

I bought McKenney pro pants for $30 on closeout from Perani's, and they are great. Tough exterior, no rips, the zippers are a nice feature and the tailbone protection is very very good. Last I saw they were going for $50 online at Hockeyworld.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'd rather not start a new one.

Pro Hockey Life has the 'Graf Pro' pants on sale for boxing week for $70 CDN, down from $150.

My link

I've searched, but can't find any reviews or whatnot. I'm mainly looking for a pair that fits a bit longer and has good butt protection, as I find that it hurts when I fall on my ass in my One35s (duh :P)

Anyone have any experience with them? Or are they just an SMU?

Merry Christmas :)
