New pants...Tackla 2400 or ...? think mobility

Recommended Posts

Looking to replace my Supras that are about 8 years old. Don't need anything too protective as I am 29 and well past my competitive playing days w/ full contact... Does anyone have any experience or reviews of the Tackla 2400? I'm guessing its their price-point pant which is fine by me, as long as the mobility is still there since that's my # 1 priority. I'm thinking either the Tacklas or the Bauer One75 or One55?

all help much appreciated!

I recently bought the Tackla 4400 and I love them. During my search I tried on the bauers and found them all too restrictive. I also like the Tackla 951. Sorry, I have no input on the 2400

I have never seen any pant that actually restricts mobility. Even the heaviest pants that Tackla makes are pretty supple right out of the box.

Most pants restrict movements for me... not in-game(most of the time) but moreso when I'm stretching. There have been times like holding the line, getting back to touch up as a rush is coming back into the zone and kicking out to block a shot. It almost has to be a full split to restrict, the part that restricts is the hip pad that is just to the outside of the hip flexor.

So you have to do something that could cause an injury in order to feel any restriction?

Tackla makes a top quality pant...can't see you going wrong with any decision there. I personally like pro stock pants....perfect balance of mobility and protection. I now go with the Franklin pro stock pants and I love them....but I also swear by the Tackla 5000 pro.

No, all I have to do is my usual stretching before the game. Actually, after ditching the one90 pants I had to modify my stretching routine. Not all of us would get injured going into a split.. and stretching doesn't really help if you aren't extending to your full range of motion.

My point is that with most people and in most conditions, you won't find a restriction.

If the 2400's are anything like the Air 9000's, they'll be fine. I can't even tell I'm wearing my 9000's and they're one of the top model pants. The only time they feel restrictive is if I wear a shell I've got over them, it feels like it closes up the legs a bit.

2400s have about two thirds the protection of the 9000

I just got a pair of 2400's and I think they are great. I previously had Tackla Pro 5000's and like it was already said, the 2400's aren't as protective but are still very mobile and comfortable. They are perfect for no-contact men's league play.

I'll second swearing by the 5000 pro. Amazingly protective, but I've never once even noticed them on the ice, other then the "Wow, that would have hurt!" Moments.

Really, even in a beer league I see no reason to wear low protection pants. You still take pucks, sticks and get knocked to the ice. Why feel it when you don't have to?

the 5000 were actually my plan A but I'm having a hell of a time trying to find them at any of the online retailers. I see lots of 9000 out there, but not 5000. I had the 5000s back in my hayday and loved them so if I can find them again I will buy them. Any site suggestions?

Yet the 9000 is amazingly light. When I first got the pants, I was like, "crikey they're all stiff and bulky" but this was mainly due to being packaged for some time. When I put them on, they fit right away and I barely noticed that I was wearing pants. Very light compared to my old waterlogged Graf 700s.

Tackla makes a great pant..that is all I really have to add.

I loved the Tackla 5000's I had, but they were too small. Couldn't find another pair in my size, so I ended up with some Vapor XXV's. They are really light and mobile, but not as protective as the Tacklas.

One more question since none of the LHSs near me carry Tackla and I cannot find my exact answer searching old threads...

With regard to sizing.... I am 6'0, 195, 33 inch waist on jeans & dress pants....should I go w/ 50 or 52

I would go with a 50 I think. My Tackla 9000's I just bought are 50's and I'm about your size too. 6'1, about a 33 inch waist. The pants fit fine in the waist and the length is actually good too. The Missions I had were a little short but the tacklas come down to the top of my shin pads. I think the 52's might be a little big, but it's hard to say. Pant length is kind of a personal preference but they fit me pretty well.

If you want I could measure the length from the belt to the bottom of the pant, if it's length you're worried about?

I originally bought the tackla 5000 pro's. great pants but I wasnt very flexible in them. so I sold them and got the 2440 lites. great pants, no regrets, doesnt even feel like im wearing them. all depends what your using them for. I play in beer leagues, so the 2440 are great for that. highly reccomend 2440's over the 5000's.

In what ways did you not feel flexible in them? Kinda contrasts with what everybody else has been saying.

thanks to all for the suggestions...just ordered myself a new pair of the Tackla 9000Z Airs size 50 on hockeymonkey, plus some other stuff that I don't really need.

Did you miss that part or something?

rjw059, you'll be happy with the 9000's. For the protection they have, the mobility is really good. I thought I'd miss not having zippers in mine (mine are the regular Air 9000's) but the legs are big enough that it didn't matter to me.

Hey man. How do you like the 2440's? I posted an original post but got zero responses. I play in a beer league but need to get rid of my waterlogged Bauer Supremes. Im thinking about ordering up the 52 LONGS -6'5". Put a nice review up here. I believe theyre pretty new because I cant find them in shops to try one. Thanks
