Absolutely. Sometimes their computers are just programmed better. It's weird.

Also, this is uncannily noted, when your playing against a user forward and use goalie, the opponents teams computers are significantly better. Remarkably. That because computers play well on their own and move the puck like it's nobodies business.

Often the forward just throws the puck at the net for rebounds and let's the computer do all the work, and hangs back. Very cheese if you ask me.

This applies also with a User Forward and User D-man. The only advantage you may get is that you might get a couple of Odd-man rushes if the user D-man thinks he's Bobby Orr.

This scenario is usually in 2v2 on line games. Though the user goalie applies to any situation where there are computer players.

It's just amazing how i can dominate some people, play the same way against someone else; and have the tables completey turned.

Prime example - i outshot someone 37-7 and lost (Canucks) 2-1 (Lightning)!

what are some things that you all know about the game that isn't commonly known?

here's what i've figured out over the years (NHL online play /EASHL/ vs)

- quitting a game, no matter what online format, before the 18:00 min mark - won't count against you.

- when playing EASHL, the server finds you games based on how good your 'Captain' is (matched up with other good or bad players).

- always hold the skate backwards button when poke checking or jabbing at a puck to avoid penalties.

- slapshots while in the umbrella or shooting strategy will induce more CPU deflections.

i'm sure there's a few more that i'm forgetting but i'll add them as i go..

to follow up...

i think i figured out what seperates some people from the rest. This is just a guess based off of light research online....for xbox360 at least.

i know there's modded controllers out there or turbo controllers made by generic companies. it's possible that one of these controllers is setup to be constantly pushing down the 'hustle' button for players making them appear to be always faster than your own. same goes for the skate backwards button or sticklift button.

tell tale sign is when you're setting up the game in the lobby and when you advance screens, the opponent is already a in a 'ready' state. why? -because the controller mod is already advancing for them.

Hustle button? You mean accelerating? I don't think so, they would lose the puck all the time

yes, hustle button. that's what it's called in the instruction booklet. default button for this is pressing down on left joystick for xbox360.

you do notice that if they do lose the puck, it doesn't matter because they're still pressing the hustle button so they catch up to it.

the hustle button is different from pushing the puck ahead of your player and catching up to it.

playing online is not for the weak, im ranked 244 th in VS and all my games are still one goal game battles so if your skill level is not high, i could see how you would think the other guy has an advantage...

About the hussle button, i rarely use it if not at all, ive used it because some guys abuse it...

Even tho im ranked high, im gonna ask how to do 2 things i never learned: how do you select your goaltender? how do you make a long lob pass with your goaltender? i konw its stupid but i dont know how...

you're right that it's not for the weak; a lot of frustration when i lose in BS ways. i'm only a level 8 on VS play, but that could easily be triple it wasnt for all the 1 goal games from garbage glitching. i've also played on and off for a EASHL team that is consistently ranked in the top 20 in Division 1.

for xbox 360, you select the goalie by holding the 'select' butting and pressing 'A'. long lob passes aren't really made with the pass button; aim your goalie in the direction you want to pass, then press up with the shoot button. be careful if there are players around you as they can poke the puck loose.

Ahah I didn't even know there was a hustle button... and I still can't find the damn hip check button

to hip check, you line up the player as your normally would for a check, but think of it as a real hip check. then, instead of pressing up on the joy stick -- press down and towards whatever side your hip is flying. the player in control should kind of bendover; voila.

hip check is too high risk low reward for online play for my taste, i keep walking around guys that try that and then do there goalies dirty...

why they would use the select button beats me akward to hit during play, thanks for the shoot the puck thing...

yeah, im at level 26 right now, six away from number 1 wich is at level 32...

LOL I pitty the fool that even attemps a glitch on me, the rare times it happens and they actually pull it off, I play so angry that i end up scoring like 10 goals with allot of gooffy celebrating...

3 rules about online play i think everyone should respect

1- No glitching (thats just stupid to me...)

2- Dont go using taunting celebrations, ridding the stick, sliding knee or i actually found some fool that scored 1 goal and pointed at my player lol, you know he lost big...

3- Dont hit from behind, they dont call it but its a penality, stop doing what you would not do in real life...

It's not worth it, imo. Even a regular check can end up going horribly wrong so I got better at blocking shots.

I STILL can't do a hip check  The player either winds up for a slap shot or does nothing at all (or a regular check)

Click in the right thumbstick. Your player will bend over. Very easy.

Absolutely agree. Very tiring to see just how many classless people there are online.

The goal celebration should have like safeguard. If you are losing badly or score an insignificant goal you shouldn't be allowed to use boisterous celebrations.

Diving on the ice when you scored your first goal when losing 4-0 the whole game and with less than a minute in the third is pretty arrogant.

I agree about sometimes the opponent seems 'too good'. not in skill, but say their d man can catch my fastest forward with ease EVERY time, and are nearly impervious to checks, pokes or sticklifts. It doesnt happen often. But I notice it, and its very obvious.

But im not gonna lie, if im playing you and you go into the boards and turn your back to me, Im perfectly fine with sittin in the box for boarding. Ask JR, I cant explain it, its just like a green light for me...

Anyway, Liking the EASHL even though I am terrible. Oh well

We have a team in the EASHL - send ModSquadHockey a message for an invite.

how organized are you guys? it's fun playing organized as if it were real. everyone plays their position and supports one another. it's terrible when everyone does nothing but try to score goals on end to end rushes.

sorry, to take control of the goalie is holding down the LB button (above the left trigger) and pressing the switch player button. i have my systems mixed up.

lol. i play BE a GM mode and roll the computer when i want to do that. fun is what it's all about for sure. sometimes it gets overly serious on there that people forget it's a game. I remember last year when we played a team called 'HIT'..all their guys were maxed out on height and weight and they did what their team name suggested. yeah, my self created 5'9" guy probably absorbed 2344352435 hits that game; looked like a rag doll.
