It pisses me off that legit set ups still don't go in when there's no chance for the goalie to make a save but a clapper from the blue line with no screen. Wrap arounds five hole still work too and hip checks are ridiculous even when there is no momentum involved.

I think it's a good game but needs more tweaks for sure. Like mentioned above about poke checking, that and stick lifting are useless if I can't pick the puck up after I do it.

Except now if you try and do a fake slapshot, your player loses the puck behind them almost every time. I agree it's a good idea, but it's kind of annoying to not be able to fake a shot.

more realistic

Yeah but thats realistic. I don't know how many times I've watched guys like Hossa, Zetterberg, or Malkin get stick lifted, use their size and positioning to maintain control of the puck anyway.

I'm having a great time with the game in BAGM mode. I've been going every other year with these games. I skipped NHL 11. I've gotten my sliders tweaked so the game plays pretty much how I want it to. The game does far more things right than it does wrong. This game was never meant to be a pure and 100% realistic simulation meant to satisfy the niche portion of the market that actually plays hockey. The whole "it's in the game" line is simple marketing, and IMO they do get a ton of authentic stuff in there. It would appear it's gotten to the point where it's on par with any other sports game during past console cycles dating back to the Sega Genesis/SNES era where the game has reached it's peak near the end of that cycle. You get to a certain point where you have the game refined about as far as it's going to get with that technology and the year-to-year changes will be less and less noticable as you near the end of the console lifespan. You can't re-invent the wheel every year, and for some reason that's what people expect. Personally, I enjoy the game.

That's actually a good point about diminishing returns there CaptainFantastik; but obviously everyone can see a few points here or there that could be improved.

If I were to get the game, I'd most likely play BAGM the most, any thoughts on it? I'm coming from NHL10 as well.

more realistic

A player like Ovechkin losing the puck on a fake slap shot nearly every time is realistic? I don't want it to be glued to them like NHL 11, but come on, they're NHL players and they can't fake a slapper without losing the puck 9 times out of 10.

if ur losing the puck on fake slap shots ur holding the fake way too long. i always do fake slap shots and pass for 2 on 1's and i barely lose the puck. i lose it a lot trying to slap shot it along the boards in my own zone trying to clear it though which gets annoying

hip checks dont need to be tweaked, they need to be fixed. EA people have confirmed that its bugged along with the goalie auto playing the puck after he covers it.

What do I do to stop my computer teammates from interfering with me going for a check? Its so annoying! Also what does game styles mean like for example current, hardcore, casual, favorite.. etc.

It sounds like you guys need to play with the game settings a little bit more. Most of the gripes I have had with the game can be improved quite a bit by messing with the sliders. If players keep rag-dolling front flips after a check, turn the hitting power down. If you keep loosing the puck on fakes or dekes, turn puck control up. I usually don't get the game tweaked just right till about 10-15 games into a season.

My biggest problem with the game is whenever I sell a card in HUT I can't access my trade pile because it freezes the game. I have to load the game, go to trade pile, freeze, and restart for each card I've sold. One of the most annoying things I've encountered in any game.

Most of these things will be fixed in the first update. The game has a ship date that it has to be 80% correct or what not and they need to get it out to be mass produced. Im sure most of the bugs that you find, EA knows about them already and has a fix for them. If you are one that does not know how to glitch or to play defense against the glitches, i suggest waiting for the update to play online. I know there will still be glitches later on but for every goalie change they make it opens a hole for something else. The wrapper glitch is usually still left in the game because it is the easiest to defend. Just build up your HUT offline or continue with BAGM then unleash your awesome HUT team or real plays online after the update! Happy gaming!

the game is frustrating to say the least but you get the odd time you play a guy that does not glitch or figure skate online and in that instance, the game is actually enjoyable...

you know what this game bloody needs? I don't know why it never occurred to me before. When you scratch a player/ they get injured or are no longer on your roster...in the 'edit lines screen' the UNFILLED should be in RED so you dont' end up going back and forth 10x to find that one position that's left unfilled on 3 man pk. Geez.

That, and the autofill lines option they had years ago. If you have one player get hurt I don't want the "assistant coach" effing up all of my lines, just replace that one player and call it a day. I know if an AHL guy gets hurt or suspended you can have that option, but not once you're in the edit lines screen. And I know they had this option in previous games too.

Anyone on the forums have a club on ps3? I'd love to link up on someones club and play an online season. I've always been into ranked play but have just started to really like the be a pro mode. If noone has a club we should get a little squad together and make one.

This one game made me look up the prices of the current consoles, but I can't justify dropping that much money to play 1 game. I will just suffer with my NHL 09 and third party addons =(.
