Kovalchuk Pattern for AK27 Shaft

Recommended Posts

I spent some time searching on this topic, but didn't really get the answer I was looking for. Long story short, I purchased one of the new AK27 grip shafts, and decided to try out the Fedorov pattern since there's no Warrior Kovalchuk pattern for standard shafts. A considerable differance obviously, and I just can't get used to it. Regardless of manufacturer, what is the closest standard blade I can get to the Warrior Kovalchuk pattern? Thanks for any replies.

It is not in our Pattern DB, but IIRC wasn't the Kovalchuk a 1/2" mid? P88/Lindros would be the clone, assuming the lie is the same, don't know off the top of my head.

The kovalchuk pattern was changed this year and when I asked the warrior rep about it he said it is closer to the lindros now.

I too picked up a Federov (Innovative) a while back when I couldn't find a Kovalchuk/Robitaille (Inno) and it was just terrible for me.

I'm an avid Kovalchuk/Robitaille blade user and it looks like the Bauer P88/Lindros is pretty close. From what I can see, it looks like the height of the heel on the Kovalchuk is a little more pronounced. I have yet to try the P88 though.

The P88 is a 6 lie and the Kovalchuk is a 5 lie but as we know, Warrior's lie numbers seem to run 1 increment too low so they should be similar.

Just to try something alternative to the Kovalchuk, I picked up an Easton ST - Heatley. The lie is a 5 (which is more suited to my style), has a sort of squarish toe, a less pronounced mid-heel curve (than mid curve on Kovalchuk), and has a slightly open face. So far, I like it much better than the Federov.

Did you find that you weren't getting pop on your wrist shots? That's my problem.

The interesting thing I'm seeing is that the Lindros is getting flatter and more of a mid-heel curve than it used to be.

I took a One95 next to a Robitaille last week and the Robitaille was just a hair more curved and a bit more mid, wherease the Lindros was a hair flatter and a bit more mid-heel. It's subtle though and I don't even know if you'd recognize the difference in a game situation.

The lies seemed pretty similar although I didn't see if the rocker was the same. The Lindros also looked to be a bit rounder at the toe than the Robitaille, which has a bit of a flatter end before the corners rounded. Again, subtle differences.

Yea, I like to load up the puck on the heel and let it slide to the toe on release. The Federov is too straight for me and the puck will sort of slide off of the toe. Slappers were also terrible for some reason.

Thanks guys. The Bauer P88 actually does seem like a close fit. I'm going to pick up a One95 version this weekend and see how it works out.

Got some spare cash, eh?

The One95 blade is great. I put the One95 P92 on 3 of my shafts and I'm putting a P14 on a couple when the Bauer wood P14s come out next week

I spied a few SR sized One95s at Westwood yesterday with the P14 blade as well.

Is it just me or is the Lindros a deeper curve this year?

They like those P14's at Westwood. Is that where you picked up the Dolo HD blade?

I've been bugging them about the P14s for awhile. They ordered some wooden blade P14s and they said they'll try to keep getting the P14s in the One95s. They're out of the One95 P14's in a non-grip but have about 3-4 left in grip.

Yeah, I got the Dolo HD blade there a couple months back. I think..hah

This would be at the Bloomington store, not the AV store. I've always gone there instead of the AV store.. I dont know why. I see they're remodeling the basement of the Bloomington store..Thats where they keep all their sticks.. I saw a ton more in the storage room downstairs where they left the door open. I spose they sell a lot of sticks there

Just picked up a Kovalchuk blade. The pattern is different than the Robitaille, slightly. The Robitaille is a mid to mid-heel and slightly open blade whereas the Kovalchuk is more of a pure mid and neutral (less open). The Kovalchuk also seems a little longer and looks like it has a little less rocker.

It looks subtle, but we'll see how much of a difference it makes in practice.

I shoot the same way and i found Gagne to be a great curve actually, its more of a heel though with a long round toe blade and a lie around 5. The rbk datsyuk seems to be my favorite curve though, mind you i modify it to give it a pretty open toe.

How do you like the Kovalchuk blade? I'm a righty...I may let my Kovy blade go up for sale since I'm stuck on the P14 and P92s

I took pics of them yesterday, need to find my card reader to upload them.

I'm loving the Kovalchuk HD blade right now, although I'm going to get an XXXX Lindros from nspeen to compare the two in terms of feel. What I've found is that I tend to shoot from the middle of the blade, so it works really well for that. For mid-toe blades I have to shoot off the mid-toe, and it's just easier for me to grab the puck with the Kovy, let it settle in the curve, pull it in and let it rip.

But it's all PP, and it's a generic mid-curve, so however a Lindros played is how this plays.

I seem to hit the Sakic very well with the wrist shot along with the Afinogenov and P92/P14 blades..

I dont like the feel of the Draper or Nash even though they're supposedly Sakic "clones."

Only problem with the Afinogenov TPS blade is that it is "pingy" and does not receive passes as well as the One95 P14/P92 blades or the Easton Sakic.

I've put the Sakic and the Afinogenov along side of each other and they seem identical to me.

is kovalchuk taking over for robitaille...coz i just saw a robitaille and its close to my perfect curve toe and all, always wanted to try a warrior blade

P92 is pretty much 100% identical to draper so I don't think the pattern is the issue

That's not always true, I have both and they're slightly different. I can't use the Draper at all.

I think it depends on where/when it was made.

Word around the water cooler is yes it is replacing the Robatille.
