Easton Skates?

Recommended Posts

I notice Easton skates don't get a lot of love on this forum, not a lot of chatter about it. So this got me curious because I was trying on new skates and the Easton 1200C was the best fit for me out of Bauer X30 and Supreme One75 all 9.5 regular. I currently use RBK 9K 9.5 regular but get a lot of heel slippage.

From the little that I have read previously, Eastons have a narrow fit. So it came as a big surprize to me Easton fit me well. Is it true Easton's have a wide forefoot and narrow heel? That is what my foot is, I guess I am just trying to get reassurance. Do all Easton skate fit the same, Synergy and Stealth?

Also, how is the durability of Easton skates in general?

Will it be a tough transition from RBK to Eastons?

Thanks in advance.

I loved my eastons, my last two pairs have been easton actually. I've had a pair of pro stock z-air comps and the easton SBX skates. They pro's were nice, fit well, i have narrow feet also and they fit me quite nicely, they were just a very heavy skate. The SBX were extremely comfortable, just have a soft exterior so shot blocking....painful. I would give easton's a great review for durability, however, I havent used their newer composite boot skates.

My last 3 ice skates were 1500, S15 and the 1500C which I currently wear. I don't even have to bake them because they fit my feet perfectly. As far as I know I have pretty normal feet, no arch issues but I'm not a Podiatrist. I'm happy with them, I have not had any durability issues but I don't keep my skates for longer than 2 years. The bottom line when it comes to skates is if they feel good when you try them on then that's probably the boot for you. I've had the same experiences with Nike and Mission roller hockey skates so I've been pretty fortunate. I'm thinking about buying One95's but I'm afraid they won't be comfortable then I'll feel stupid for switching brands.

I hear ya, I actually tried on a pair of one95s at great skate the other day....felt like they were too loose for me, my heel and ankle had a whole lot of room, maybe they just arent for me?... At least my wallet will be happy that way haha.

i went from 1500's and s15s (which fit me perfect straight from the box) to one95's and i have to say you wont be dissappointed. i had to go down half a size though. my toes feathered the cap in a 9.5R 1500 and s15, but i had to go down to a 9D in one95's to get the toes feathering. they felt pretty good out the box but i had them baked anyway to take advantage of the fully formable boot and man was i glad i did. they are slippers! hope this helps ;)

I think you've answered your question about fit right there. If that's what fits best that's what you go with. As for durability I think it matters #1-how often you play and #2-how well you take care of your skates. On this board you can hear bad things about any brand of skates, but I'm always skeptical that we're hearing the whole story.

I can only speak about the Synergy and Stealth lines, but they are not narrow. They do have a wide forefoot, and since they use a one piece formed boot, there is no seam at the toecap, which can bother some people with wide feet in other brands.

I found that the Synergys and Stealths fit a little bit different. I found the Synergy line to be a bit more "padded" feeling and snug. I actually had to go a half size bigger in 1500 than in s15. The Stealth line seems to be a more spartan and utilitarian fit. Not as cushy, but more responsive.

As far as durability, I believe that Easton has addressed many of the durability issues in thier skates. My custom pro s15's are structurally almost like new and I have had them since August 08.

from what ive seen on my team guys love the performance but hate the durability. Guys are constantly taking scissors to the freying leather, and stiffness disappears quick. But depending on how you wear your skates, it depends

Weight, Stride, Lacing, etc.

I should have added IMO but I agree with you.

My stealth s15s have held up fine so far; I bought them right after they came out, as they fit my feet better than anything else. I've got quite a wide forefoot combined with a more narrow heel, so, yes that seems to be what works with them.

As the owner of an Easton skate in that generation (800c, mostly the same thing but with all glass fiber boot instead of a glass/carbon boot like the 1200), I'll warn you now, that's the generation where they had glue problems. The stuff glued onto the outside of the composite boot will peel off. If you have another glue to replace it with you can catch it and keep the boot in great condition, but the factory glue isn't great. I've used E6000, which is marketed as a craft glue but is really industrial strength and easily my favorite glue now, and it's held up quite well. As the stuff peels off of your skate, you glue it back on. It's not a huge deal if you monitor it, but if you want to avoid the issue altogether I hear they've fixed it on more recent skates.

Fit, narrow heel but a wider forefoot, low arch, and a pretty low volume forefoot. The toecap is a lot flatter then most skates, you don't have room to move your toes around like other skates. If they fit you the best, go for it though.

As for performance, I love the feel of the skates, especially the low cut boot. And the protection is great. The one piece composite boots do wonders. I took what I would estimate as an upper 80s to low 90s slapshot off the inside of the skate in warmups the other day (guy on our team, old, slow, but has a ridiculous slapshot), I felt it, but the feeling went away in 5 minutes and when I took my skate off after the game it was pristine, I have little doubt that in my old skates (externos that didn't fit me well), I would have had a bruised foot at the very least, and could have very well fractured it.

And as for the feel of the stealth and synergy lines mentioned by the guy above, that's easton's design ethos these days. Stealth is optimized for performance, Synergy is geared more towards the protective and comfort side.

I had the first gen 1300c skates. Fit perfect out of the box and the 13's could not be baked. However they have pretty much fallen apart and my toe caps are both cracked and missing pieces.

I was going to by the se16's and then tried on a pair of graf ultra g3's...and they fit like a glove. I just hope I don't miss the weightlessness of my eastons compared to the new grafs.

I had a pair of Easton 1500's, loved the skate, but the durability was shit, I didnt even use them for a whole year and they were falling apart. Like a previous member said, I was always with my scissors cuttung pieces of leather that were hanging off.

FIT - well that is something that only you can determine wether it is right or not.

DURABILITY - I personally don't own Eastons, however in my line of work (skate sharpening) I see tons of them coming through, and most of their models are NOT very durable at all. But then a lot of the higher end skates do not seem to stand up to the rigers of AAA leagues or Major Junior.

The one Easton model that does seem to withstand more abuse than the others is the 1100 - Hmmmm isn't that model now discontinued?

I will also admit that most higher end GRAF also stand up well to these higher league abuses.

I have a pair of Stealth S7 skates that have seen about 6 months of 3 nights a week beer league action. Other than puck marks they are perfect. I had 2 pairs of Synergy 800C skates. They were great but I didn't have them long enough to talk about durability. The first pair, in my correct size for that model killed my big toe on my slightly longer foot. The boot fit that foot perfectly and no I don't have long toenails, but my toenail became bruised and fell off. I tried the same skate a half size bigger and still had issues. Only thing I could think of was the shape of the toecap used on most Synergy skates. I tried a Synergy 500 which never gave me the issue due to the bigger toecap. I left to a X:40 but heel slippage is an issue. Does the Synergy fit deeper than the Stealth? I forgot lol

I still have my 1300 C's and don't have any durability problems at all and I used them minimum twice a week over the past two and a half years. They've held up great. I'm currently in Graf 735's and they are tanks but they weigh considerably more than the Eastons and I've definitely got to confess I like the Easton fit much more, even though the Grafs are very comfy as well. I've heard horror stories about the S-15's and 1500's but also a lot of good things about the 1200's. To my knowledge Easton has dealt with the leather peeling off the composite boot problem with their lastest newest models by reinforcing the leather but that remains to be seen. The new Stealth 17 and the Synergy 16 are supposed to be a nice fitting and more durable boot. I am in agreement with one of the past posters, if you like the fit that is what you go with and worry about everything else later. All models of skates have their particular durability issues their not just restricted to Easton so go with the fit you like the best,
