Actually, some people are saying that its the 10K dressed as the 7K as a marketing tactic

Yeah thats the thing, we've never gotten a straight answer as to whether it's a 10k or a 7k, just a lot of speculation.

yeah that's probably a given, especially considering the 7k is being sold for so cheap, I can't imagine it's really an "NHL-ready" stick...

Exactly, the Reebok rep that said its a 7K is most likely part of the marketing tactic too. I wonder if other companies will copy Reebok's initiative...If they do it will be for a mid-high level stick. No one is gonna believe Reebok if they get pros to use 10K's painted as 4K's

Young kids might. And parents would have no problem buying a 4k or a 10k.

Lol, it's a two year cycle and was time for a change. Took 5 days to actually get the picture and remember to change it though lol.

Actually now that you mention it it kind of throws me off too lol.

Well I think that dumbpolak meant the color scheme of the stick, so I said 7k, no harm to anyone

True, so if Junior sees his hero Pavel Datsyuk using a 10k dressed as a 4K and doesnt know/care of the difference, he will go to his parents and ask for a 4K...Parents happy, Reebok not as much. I think they'd rather sell the 10K than the 4K. So by doing this to the 7K, it makes more sense because the 7K is actually a pretty decent mid-range stick and a great price and Reebok, I believe is trying to expand and exploit this newer section of the market (recession = less spending and less $$ for good hockey products) by offering and advertising for a lower priced stick.

I understand and agree with them pushing the 7k graphics, but I'm saying a 4k doesn't hurt either. Do you know for a fact that the 10k generates more revenue for Reebok? I know it costs more but that doesn't necessarily mean it makes them more money.

I'd bet it's safe to say that 75-80% of house players and beer league players don't use the top end stick from each brand, and still feel like they are on the same playing field as those that do. What I'm saying is Reebok could dress up a 10k to anything they need to move, and I'm sure they'd be happy just to be moving the product.

Absolutely, a 10K generates ~$200 lets say and a 4K ~$50 but if we assume that the ratio of cost is the same then we can say that the profit made is the same. Now if this were true, then why don't you think they're doing that right now?

They are doing it though in the fact that they produce 4k and low end sticks at retail. And I don't think it is safe to assume the ratio of costs is the same, as I would be unable to back up any claims if I were to make any. My thoughts would be that the markup would be greater on low end sticks because they are easier to produce. Anyway it was all speculation on my part, not really wanting to argue on it, just saying that for RBK its a smart move to graphic their nhl sticks with their low end graphics to push them off shelves.

EDIT: and if it was all about profits why would they even bother pushing a 7k at the NHL level? Why not just do what everyone else does and push the high end stick only?

Point is, lets say because of the price point they sell a lot more 4ks than 10ks. Well, now they need to sell more 4ks than one55s and SE6s, so they have to step up in that department. Good way to do that is to make it look like Patrice Bergeron is using one.

True, though the 7K would be competing against the likes of the Warrior AK, Bauer X:40/50, Bauer One75, Easton S13 etc. and having it shown (at least graphically) at the NHL level would give it that edge over the competitor. That and the fact that some people would associate this new 7K with the old red Sickkick, am I right? :P I like discussing this stuff because I want to get into the industry in the future

Hockey Monkey? Link?

It's most likely the new 7K, but HM doesn't usually mess up names.
