Patrick Kane arrested

Who knows, but it does give us some news in an otherwise dull offseason. I'm sick of hearing all this crap about Heatley.

I hope alcohol was involved or this is just stupid. Either way it is, but if they were drunk at least that's half of a shitty excuse. but like... really? 20 fucking cents? i can find more than that in my couch, and i don't make 875,000 a year.

Alcohol was almost certainly the reason for this. Yikes.

I hope it was, even then he will get an MIC. Stupidity at the finest no doubt, all over 20 cents. Ive certainly lost some respect for Kaner

Eh, I still respect the guy as the Poster Boy for American Hockey now. I mean, if alcohol was involved, which seems likely, taking a taxi at 5 AM in the morning...then I wouldn't put it as such a big deal. Now, if he was not drunk, and was all-serious about the incident, then shame on him....people make mistakes, especially when drunk.

ea sports curse in full effect

EXACTLY what I was thinking....although Ovechkin managed to dodge it thus far.

what was he thinking? or i guess they weren't

its not like he needs the money anyway

sometimes principle outweighs monetary gain. not that i'm endorsing his actions.

pro sports athletes are counselled early in their careers (or before) that when stardom hits, people will take advantage of them. not that this is an example of that, but add a little ego and some booze, and it can get blown out of proportion to the point where pat kane thinks the guy is ripping him off or taking advantage of him.

in my neck of the woods, cab drivers wont give back any change lower than a dollar and you'd be an idiot to expect/ask for it.

Like everyone else I think its safe to assume alcohol was involved. If that is the case, good for him taking a cab. Things could have been much worse if he got behind the wheel or in a car with another drunk. Secondly, and I'm sure many of you who have had a lot of late night cab rides like myself have experienced a huge variety of cabdrivers. A lot of times they are really cool and friendly. The later it is and the drunker you are, the more likely it is they are assholes and/or try to rip you off. For all we know this guy was being a tool, figuring he could take advantage of a rich, young celebrity. Not saying that I condone punching a cabbie in the face, but I'll withhold judgment until we hear all the facts.

This is a crap situation for any professional athlete, let alone a poster boy of American (or any other nation's) hockey to be in.

I'm a pretty big Kane fan and this is definitely disappointing news.

Not attempting to defend him but one thing nobody said yet (everyone just keeps saying maybe he was drunk - as though that would defend him somehow,) was perhaps it was his cousin who took the course of action that got the two in trouble... he was dragged into it because he was with the cousin.

Pretty much all we can do from here on is wait for more details to come out though.

You'd think he could just let it go. Even after I have a few drinks and take a cab home, the cost is 17.00 I'll give him a 20 and call it a night..

Now talk about a weird story.

Hopefully, Kane can bounce back from all this as soon as possible and maybe mature a little more. He's defintely a joy to watch on the ice, one of the top 5 in the league in term of stickhandling, foot work and pure talent...

And like it has been said, just a very disapointing situation for the Hawks, American hockey and Kane himself... The development on this story will be interesting to follow.

Obviously an extremely stupid move by Kane. It is not USA Hockey though that has as much to lose with this being Kane as it is Bauer Hockey that has Kane as one of their poster boys. The guys at Bauer can't be pleased with this. And Bauer just finished their summer summit meeting with their stable of players seeing and testing new product. I'm sure Kane was there. Ouch.

True. If people didnt mistakes while drunk half of us woudlnt be here and the other half of us would be saints. Its something thats going to happen as long as theres alcohol and to totally judge a persons character by one idiotic mistake is stupid.

Good thing they chose Toews as captain.

Toews was arrested in North Dakota a year before he joined the Hawks for a bar-alcohol related incident. Everyone screws up

I know this may not be popular, but the hared the NHL and the Hawks come down on this young man the better it will be for him in the future.

He needs to learn some things while he's still young so that he gets his act together and doesn't become a side-show punk when he's in his prime.

Very disappointing, sounds like something some NBA punk would do not an up a coming star NHL'r.
