Wayne a no show at camp.

Tomorrow is their first on-ice practice. I'm gonna go and see how Ulf is doing handling the duties. Wouldn't be a surprise if he ends up taking over full time once this bs is over with.

I believe both of the parties bidding for the team have stated that they will be cutting or eliminating his contract. I think he has an agreement with the NHL, but not with Balsillie. It actually makes more sense for him to not be there at all than to start coaching the team and then leave once the ruling has been made.

I always wondered what he'd be like as a coach. Seems growing up a lot was expected out of him, especially from his father. I wonder if his expectations for the team were just as high (I'm sure they had to be to an extent). Just doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would joke around when it comes to practicing.

wayne is stepping down as coach per tsn.. supposedly going to be replaced by dave tippett

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=292399

"The Phoenix Coyotes saga took another dramatic turn on Thursday, as Wayne Gretzky has stepped down from his post as the team's head coach.

"This was a difficult decision that I've thought long and hard about," Gretzky said in a statement. "We all hoped there would be a resolution earlier this month to the Coyotes ownership situation, but the decision is taking longer than expected. Since both remaining bidders have made it clear that I don't fit into their future plans, I approached General Manger Don Maloney and suggested he begin looking for someone to replace me as coach. Don has worked hard and explored many options. I think he has made an excellent choice, and so now it's time for me to step aside.

Sources tell TSN that Dave Tippett will be named head coach of the team at a local news conference at 3pm local time."

All part of the Balsillie thread.

I think Tippett will do a good job with the Coyotes. My sense is that he is good at developing younger players but is also respected by veterans.

Classy move and statement by Gretzky. It's too bad, but probably predictable, that this experiment didn't work and got so messy.

Just heard about this on the radio. Gretzky steps down and head coach of PHX and they pick up former Dallas Stars coach Dave Tippett.

Never thought Gretzky was that great of a coach so hopefully this new look for the Yotes will turn that franchise around. Tippett is a good coach so I only see this for the better.

Baahhahahahaha. Tippett knowing how to run a powerplay (supposedly his trademark)? That'll be the day.
