Known NHL Flexes

Recommended Posts

So after hearing that Brett Hull used a 65 flex, and Zdeno Chara uses a 140, I'm curious if anyone is outside these parameters? Any other interesting notes on flex's guys use? Also I see a lot of inconsistency in this kind of thing. I've heard Ovechkin uses an 82 flex, and also that he uses a 115.

I have an ovie gamer One95, it's a 77. Also have a Kovalchuk, which is a 95, two different Samsonov's, one is an 85 (one95) one is a 95 (one90)

Saw a Kessel Vapor XXX 77 flex.

Yup, I also have one of his XXXX's resprayed as a 95 that is a 77. Perron One95 is a 102. Tom Gilbert's One95 is a 102.

Just because you happen to see one pro stock stick in a certain flex doesn't mean that's what the guy used. I've seen Steve Sullivan sticks in anything from Stiff to Whip and every flex in between.

In the same vein, plenty of players get whippy sticks and cut them down 3-4". Ovechkin, if I'm not mistaken, does that. Lecavalier uses 110-120 and very long sticks.

I've seen quite a few of Hull's sticks from over the years and I think the 65 was merely an exaggeration of the fact that most know he used a whippy shaft. Every one I saw was either a custom 85 or 80.

Others include:

Ovechkin CCM 85 and Bauer 77

Modano, Yzerman, and Sakic Easton 95s

Arnott Easton 120

Wes Walz Easton 75

the one I saw was given to the guy from Kessel in NJ while they were on road trip. Also heard from a few other people that Kessel uses a 77.

Add to this Lydman - 112

I have one of Gomez that said 87, but it was really 105. It was only 56", and I couldn't tell if he had removed a wooden plug that would've made it full length.

Mike Commodore used an 85 SE, he might have gone up to 100 when he switched to stealths.

His XN10s were S or XS

As true as that may be, I know all of the ones I've listed in here are correct, as I have / had several sticks from each of the players I posted and they have all been the same flex (sans the Samsonov One90/ One95)

There are a few guys mentioned that have had other flexes. All depends on the brand/model and time frame.

Jason Wiemer used an 87 flex, full length. Searching my memory for other NHL'ers I've had. Niko Kapanen and Dallas Drake used 87's as well.

I have a Maxim Kuznetov pro stock that was stamped 120 flex, felt a lot stiffer then a true 120 though, i cant even flex it when i put all my weight on it it doesnt move the least bit, im guessing a 140 would be more true, its only cut about an inch or two.
