I'm going to laugh out loud when you ring one off that post and it hits that van.

i moved it after i almost hit the post and it hit the tire on my dads work van haha

How strong is the tarp? No chance of a puck just going right through it?

not unless your shooting 100mph slappers, its really strong. plus usually your hitting the net.

That depends on who is shooting... like myself.

I need to work something like that out. I currently shoot off the pavement into a brick wall. Too close and obviously I wear through tape quick.

Is that a purpose made shooting pad or something you picked up at Lowes/Home Depot?

actually when i used to work at the rink, we had to replace a 3'x5'x1/2" piece of "glass" on the boards. it only has about a 2 inch chip out of the one end. i just spray it with silicone spray and i just now put a heavy duty thick rubber bungee cord on to work as a pass assister.

Aussie, you should be able to get some cheap tarp at BUnnings.... as for the shooting pad, look around for those offices that are being renovated and ask if you could have some of their old stuff that they might throw out. Whiteboards, plastic sheets (the one that the office chair rolls on)... I pinched a few items when we did the office renovation last year, did my own skill pad and puck handling area.

My plan when I get a garage is to get some heavy duty tarp off Craigslist (they sell giant tarps for $25-50 that are the back sides of billboard ads), paint a 4x6 red net outline on it, paint targets on the corners, and hang it from the ceiling a few inches from the wall. I'd shoot off a plastic shooting board (I've seen the glass get shattered too easily). That way shots aren't ricocheting off the posts as the tarp kills it. That's how a local shooting range has it set up, and it's certainly better than nothing and cheaper than the several hundred dollar shooting systems.

Add a little weight to the bottom of the tarp and it will return to shape more quickly. Either hang a 2x4 off the bottom or use some weights hanging from the grommets and it should hang properly.

i dont see how you could break a piece of board glass easily. its a 1/2 inch thick. mine has been used a lot and doesnt show any abuse or wear.

Sorry to bring back on old topic, but I made a shooting area in my basement and Im using a large plank of laminated wood as a shooting surface. The kind of wood on floorboards for example. When I stick handle on it, there's too much friction so the puck doesnt slide as well. Are there any type of sprays/solvents/other materials I can apply to it to make it more...slippery?

I have one, and I stickhandle with it a lot to the point that I can do it really fast without looking, but the ball is smaller than the puck and if I try stickhandling like that with a ppuck, I always under-position my stick so it ends up on th epuck instead of beside it .

In addition, would freezing the pucks before shooting help?

its the product's only flaw, in my opinion. and it's essentially un-fixable. in order to maintain a very similar weight, bounce and height as a puck, it has to be that size. which is unfortunate because it seems that most people with issues have the same complaint. i don't mind it at all, to be honest. i use it more for its weight than anything.

Perhaps someone should design a puck with wheels/bearings on it (roller hockey puck?) with the weight/density not at the center of the puck or evenly spaced throughout it, but only at the edges of th epuck so that one can stick handle really fast without the puck tipping over

Oh and thanks a lot for the recoommendation Chadd, Ill head over to the Home Deopt and check it out

EDIT: Uhh is there anything simpler/cheaper, because it's pretty expensive and Im only going to use it once probably...
