Linesman Dapuzzo: life after the injury.

Recommended Posts

I just stumbled upon this touching article: For First Time, Dapuzzo Reveals Anguish, Depression After Skate Severs His Face

I think a member on these boards is good friend with him IIRC.

I have to admit i wasn't even aware of the incident until i read about it today.

Neither was I. Crazy that while hes bleeding from a huge hole in his face, they get in a line brawl and he goes to break it up.

Wow...I don't even remember this happening, and I haven't missed many Flyers games in recent years.

It's unbelievable the connection we have to hockey, and what we would give to be back in it if we were ever forced to be away from the game. Just the effects from the incident, it's scary stuff

"I'm old-school -- always was and always will be." That is Pat 100%. No nonsense, no bullshit and all in a good way. I have known Pat more as a hockey dad than an NHL official. He wouldn't want it any other way. When his close friends gave him a party to celebrate 1500 games in the NHL, they handed Pat the microphone to say a few words. He looked around the room of hundreds of close friends and said, "This isn't about me. It's about you, because we are involved together in the greatest team sport there is, hockey." He is one of those guys for whom it has always been about giving back to the game he loves. Nothing hurt him more than to have it taken away in an instant. But Pat is a fighter and won't give up. No matter how long the road, he will make it back.

I hope like hell he can fully recover and be working with hockey in any way. No nonsense no bullshit, i like it. Id like him to be the NHL's disciplinarian.

Best wishes to Dapuzzo, but no Downie bashing? Everyone said it was only a matter of time until he ended somebody's career...

Accidents are a very different matter then headhunting.

I was going to let sleeping dogs lie but since someone brought up Steve Downie, for the record, he is the one guy who never called Pat to ask how he was doing. That speaks to the true character of Steve Downie, not only the player but the person.

Nice to read about Gretzky and even Bettman's classiness, too.

I noted the Downie connection, too. It's hard to pin this one on him, but he does seem to manufacture bad karma. That's for sure.

That's absolutely sickening - and it fits perfectly with laughing at McAmmond.

Wow, definitely gonna make me thing next time I hit the ice with the stripes on. And yah, Downie is a guy who just shouldn't be around. How many guys with talent have had their career ruined by some tough guy meathead who is just out to hurt someone?

Sad thing about Downie is that he actually IS talented - the guy can play hockey. Even though he plays for us, I've never been a fan because of the Aliu incident, the McAmmond incident and of course this. He just seems to suffer from Avery Syndrome.

The Aliu incident is the classic case of a kid growing up being the best locally and letting it go to his head, thinking everyone should listen to him. Every guy in the league can play - if they couldn't they wouldn't be there. It's just disappointing to see these guys carry their ego with them and not be grateful for what they are able to accomplish. I can think of at least 8307 people who would gladly take his talent and do more with it.

I was in Toronto today at the Sports Management conference that is held in conjunction with the HHOF Induction Weekend. We were filming interviews and Gouche spoke with Pat Dapuzzo. I'll post it once it's edited, but it was absolutely riveting. Part of it may have been his delivery, which was slow and deliberate (and possibly caused by the concussions), part of it may have been his journey, or part of it may have been his earnestness in wanting to help others, but everyone knew it was an amazing story.
