stevelknievel 51 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 so in all the glory of my sick day from work today i spent too much time on the computer and was going through some new team wallpapers for the wings and i noticed niklas kronwall has skipped an eyelet on both of his skates is there a specific reason hes done this? has anyone ever done this? is there a particular reason? n3ss 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 only thing i can think of is its a comfort type of thing - perhaps he doesn't want it too tight at that particular point.other wise, no clue.
raygunpk 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 better forward flex
cptjeff 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 Cole does it as well, he does it at the toe though. Probably just a feel thing to keep it a little less tight there. http://nimg.sulekha.com/Sports/original700...9-3-6-22-20.jpg
Mike92 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 I don't do the top eyelet of my skates, gives me better forward flex and the laces don't cut into my ankles as much. I feel like it gives me better ankle mobility side to side also.
VakarLajos 5 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 I skip the second eyelet. Gives me a bit more room at the forefoot.
number21 3 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 I skip the first set. I have a foot that is just between D and E so I find it more comfortable to skip the first row and then I don't tighten too hard until about the middle of the skate.
jumtao 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 My skates are pretty stiff for me so I skip the last eyelet on the top as it allows me to get more forward flex. Lacing all the way up makes me skate like I'm a penguin.
brent 1 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 I do it because one of the eyelets on my one90's ripped out :/

IniNew 53 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 I do it because one of the eyelets on my one90's ripped out :/Had an eyelet come out, took it up to the LHS and within 10 minutes it was fixed. As far as skipping, no. I lace all the way up pretty tight all the way through.

Ahriman 1 Report post Posted December 3, 2009 I skipped the top set on my One95s for the first month or so with them, now they flex enough for me to lace all the way up again.
Alexxx 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 i either loosen the top eyelet or take the laces out of it because it strains my ankle to much and gives me blisters...its more comfortable too.
tt350z 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 Top unlaced on both the CCM U+ Pro and ONE95
sebseb 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 Used to let the first 2 eyelets from the top on my last pair of skates, but once I started lacing them all the way I noticed I get a better break-in of the skates. Now I have a pair of X60 and I lace them all the way up, harder to break them in, but I like to move with the boot, not around it.
t27j9s 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 I skip the top two rows on my 8090's But - Then - Before I tie them I wrap some clear tape around a few timesThis way I can re-tighten my laces on the bench without removing the tape
gxc999 7 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 I never lace the top eyelet or the first one on the bottom (the toe eyelet).
Jarick 5 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 I usually skip the top two with waxed laces, but last night I was pretty happy with skipping the 3rd and doing the 2nd, skipping the top. Seemed to give a bit more heel lock while maintaining forward flex.
