Easton S19 helmet

Recommended Posts

I am looking forward to seeing this helmet as I just took a look at the M11 and was disappointed. As a parent of a 10 year old player I am always looking for improved safety, most true for helmets. We both have RBK 8K and with all the talk of advancement in padding I figured I would check out the M11 first. While the padding does look like it offers increased protection the back of the helmet shell or lack of is really strange as it's almost cosmetic. You can nearly squeeze together the back of the helmet. I am not an equipment expert but really found this odd.

If the S19 has similar padding with a real shell and is that light I may revisit this but for now we will stick with the 8K. Now if the 8K improved the padding?

The rear of the M11 is designed that way as it will pull against the back of the head when you tighten the adjustment dial and will lock in your head. A helmet is worse than useless if it slops around on your head - or you wear the chin strap so loose that you can flip the helmet off without unsnapping it. I just personally like the M11 padding system vs the EPP stuff and would like to see it in a true "solid shell" helmet (the the S19 appears to have).

Finally checked out this helmet today at Pro Hockey Life. They don't have any for sale, but they did have a medium and an XL to try on. It's unreal how light the thing is... really makes you feel like it's less protective than they say it is..

Picked up an S17 cage for cheap to go with the S19 helmet. Fits perfectly. This will do until the S19 cage comes out. (The S19 cage looks like it will be lighter and the chin cup more comfortable.)

Here's my 2 cents on the S19 helmet with the S17 facemask. It's not an ideal combination at first since the weight of the facemask pulls on the helmet a litttle. But I curbed that by closing the occipital adjustment in by 1 notch. Also, the Easton facemasks are lot closer to the face than Bauer facemasks, so the bars obstruct more view. It took a few minutes to get used to that. Overall, the combo was pretty comfortable and it didn't move around on my head, even after falling a couple of times.

I'm really looking forward to the S19 facemask since the bars are thinner, and the weight is lighter. It should work a lot better with the S19 helmet. Although, I can't believe the first emerging prices I've been seeing for it - $54.99 USD. You could almost get a helmet for that price.

I have had my Ti cage for at least 3 years and it still looks brand new. Guess it depends on how many cages you go through, but I most likely will never have to buy a new cage.... and it is light as all hell

Is the Itech TI really worth the price? What makes it so expensive?

It's made of titanium as opposed to the standard carbon-steel. So it's super strong and super light.

I'm pretty sure it's long out of production and hard to find.

And does it even fit the S19? Easton helmets are shaped more narrow than Bauer helmets for example. I have a 9500 cage that just won't fit on the S19 because it's too wide.

havent tried it out yet as I still use my S9, but looking at picking up a S19 and seeing if it fits... might head over to the shop today and just test it out

For anyone that cares, I got my NBH 9500 cage to fit after A LOT of bending. The only problem now is that mounted to the S19, I really need a medium instead of a large 9500/9900. The overall weight is now a tad lower (and will be even lower with the medium I plan to get) and visibility a whole lot better than the S17 cage. Since it sounds like the S19 cage isn't going to be released, the 9500/9900 is a good alternative.

I mounted a Bauer pro cut visor with spacers on my S19 without any problems.

That's a relief, thanks for the reply Dupes. Can anyone share their experience with Oakley pro straight visors?

I finally managed to get my Oakley flush, or close to it, on my helmet. Using ring spacers, with 3 up top and 4 on the bottom per side.

My Oakley is a Pro Straight, and it still sits flush using the above set up. I have to tighten it once in awhile, but other than that it has been great.

Anyone have a list of cages that will fit, I'm guessing the S17 probably would, but what about others?

The mailman just dropped off my helmet, but I doubt a large 8500 cage will fit a medium S19.

Large S17 cage fits the Large S19 helmet perfectly. A Large FM480 cage took a bit of bending but i got it to work. The chin cup just didnt fit my face as well as the chin cup on the Easton cage so im sticking with the S17 cage.

See my previous posts. The S17 fits perfectly and the Bauer 9500/9900 fits with bending (I have been using the 9500 for weeks now). I'm sure that the 8500 would fit with bending too.

I saw that post with the bending. I'm going try and avoid that. With my luck I'd break something, then I'd have a more pissed off wife than normal.

Why can't they just understand things like lighter helmets? :P

I'll check out an S17 cage, or maybe just go back to a visor. Thanks for the info

I tried a medium S19 with a small Bauer 9900 cage today for my son. The cage did fit the helmet well. However, even with the J clips mounted to the helmet in the highest position the chin cup was not pulled in close enough to his chin.

The J clip mount on the s19 is more angeled then that of a Rbk 8k. I was thinking about possibly using another chin cup or trying to see if there are J clips that are longer so I can raise them up a bit an bring the chincup on the 9900 in a bit

I will 2nd the Itech Ti cage. I love it. I've had it for around 3 seasons and it still looks new.

The question was asked a while ago, but no response....does the Itech cage fit on the S19? I'd like to give it a shot, but i don't want to have to try and bend the ti cage.

Where do you find the screws long enough for this?

I bought an S19 a while back but returned it because I couldn't find long enough screws anywhere....

The spacers you're talking about are the white Oakley ones right?

They're the ring spacers, not sure if they're Oakley's or not.
