Which pants?

Recommended Posts

Ya i've heard good things about those. When you say light does that mean they are also less protective?

Slightly less protective, but the 5000 is damn near bulletproof. A lot of people find the 5000 to be overkill and the 9000 is as protective as many other top end pants.

If you're looking for something absolutely "bulletproof" you can quite often pick up a pair of the RBK NCAA/minor league pro pants (based on the Jofa MHP7000s) on eBay for about $50-100. They're a bit more difficult to find than retail tacklas but they are absolutely solid, the thick padding on the rear makes a nice comfy seat whilst on the bench as well!

I've tried a bunch of different brands but keep coming back to the Warrior Hustler. IMO best pant on the market. Great protection without being over restrictive. Good material/built, stays very dry, very comfortable fit and not too bulky. I'd at least try them on before making your decision.

Ditto the Tackla 5000 Pro pants and the Reebok Pro pants. I have both and they're equally good IMO.

I had a pair of 520s that were excellent as well, but I had issues with the material around the laces ripping and the eyelets rusting out from sweat. Excellent pants other than that though.

Nice pants but I don't like the one piece thigh pad. I prefer pants with a segmented thigh pad.

Couldnt tell you if the thighs are one piece of split on my RBK/Jofas but they're HUGE. Thats why I'm waiting on TBL Bauer lowers coming from larrivee (great deal, thanks) which look to have much smaller pads.

Pants look solid, but the sticker shock over CCM/RBK/Bauer have me questioning such a large price difference. Are they really that much better over the others?

That's a good question. Generally I steer away from Warrior products for that reason. I think a lot of their stuff is overpriced and sort of "trendy" at the moment. You will probably find more value at a lower price. I think it sorta depends on the person. All I can say is I've been really happy with the pants and because I'm picky, I feel they're worth the money.

i have the rbk 5k pants and theyre great they have so much protection and are amazing unless your blocking shots with your ass cause i got checked and fell backwards and landed right on my left ass bone which hurt...but if i was wearing my old missions it would have prolly hurt much more.

Jofa/RBK 7000 = Split thigh

RBK/Reebok/CCM 520 = Single-piece thigh

Out of stock pants, Tackla 5000X and Jofa 7000 are my favorite.

I prefer Bauer's hip pads but the Bauer lowers are single-piece thighs, which I don't like... They're removable so it was rather easy for me to split the thigh myself, as well as remove some padding.

Both the Tackla 5000 and 9000 are excellent pants. I have the 5000 Airs and absolutely love them more than any pant I've ever owned and I'm an Easton fanatic. I also give high end RBK pants ( 7K,8K,9K) honorable mention as they are slightly more bulky but extremely protective as well.

+1 for Franklins. These are a few years old, but are great. I got 3+ years out of mine and they had lots of protection. I play D and end up blocking alot of shots too. If Hockey World has your size and color you are in luck.
