FatAndSlow 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 I've noticed that some people don't tape their stick blade completely. Some tape from the middle of the blade to the toe and some even less. What is the reasoning behind this? Is it just personal preference? Is there some "advantage" to doing this? When I'm doing normal stickhandling the puck is usually on my heel. Would this kind of tape job hurt or help my stickhandling? Just curious. Thanks in advanceFatAndSlow
HattrickSwayze 3 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 I think there was a thread on this a while ago, but whether or not it answered your question I don't know.I've seen quite a few guys that do this. Backstrom, Ovie, Kovalev, Getzlaf, etc. I used to tape from the heel to the toe, but I recently started taping one strip farther up at a time. I did this to see if I noticed any difference. I'm nearly halfway up the blade now and haven't noticed any difference. No big difference in feel or stickhandling. The upside at this point is I'm saving a fair bit of tape. I can get another 2-3 tape jobs per roll compared to before. Other peoples experiences might be different from mine.
Jarick 5 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 After the puck rolled off the heel of a blade on a breakaway that could have tied the game late, I tape from heel to toe.
LivHockey84 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 I always just tape mine the "normal" way i guess...heel to just shy of the toe, but i do put 1 stripe just above the blade where it meets the shaft.
K9 Unit 1 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 i tape from 3/4 of the blade to over the toe, i have to tape over the toe or else my shot feels weird, i know someone here that said he can't stand taping over the toe, so its all pp
jumtao 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 I tape from the heel to over the toe. I find i have better control when I tape over the toe as opposed to leaving an inch or so untaped that I used to do. Then again it can all be psychological.

bednarz877 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 i use to only tape about 3/4 of the blade with the toe covered. then started taping it toe-to-heel leaving the toe uncovered and havent changed since.
raganblink 82 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 i always do toe-heel because when the puck rolls off your stick, there isn't any friction on tape from the overlapping rolls. Does it matter? probably not, the wax on it probably makes it a waste of time anyways. but superstitions and practices never die.

dumbpolak9 1 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 i go toe to heel, then i use a puck to get all the air out from under the tape, i guess you can say, then i use snowboard wax, heat it up with a blow dryer, then apply wax again.

sitzlejd 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2009 I tape from heel to over the toe. I like having the control on wristers, but the best part of taping over the toe is the wear it saves the blade from taking. I've been using the same stick for almost a year and the toe isn't so much as chipped. I'll never go back to leaving that inch or so before the toe naked. When I use wood blades, I also put a couple of wraps around the hosel to keep them from splintering/chipping as quickly.
