Kovy_Ribs_Fedo 3 Report post Posted October 11, 2004 i learn to skate at 3 but been playing roller hockey in the street with friend only till 8 yr and then played organised hockey(house league) now started to take it more seriously at 13yr old(travel league) and now i'm 14 yr old and a half I don't think that Bantam AA is a travel league because travel is more like 2 or more hours of bus, but I could be wrong. For double letters(AA-BB) the max you travel is 1h30 or so.

Fire0nIce228 1 Report post Posted October 11, 2004 I only play A and we go really far. I live near Pittsburgh PA, and we travel to Virginia, West Virginia , and Maryland. 2 or 3 hours for the Virginia games and the Maryland game is so far away the entire team goes down the night before and stays in a hotel, its like 4 or 5 hours. Fedorov91 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2004 I started playing street hockey in shoes at 11 then I learned to rollerblade and started playing roller at 12. Started playing in ice leagues around 14-15. Now I'm 18. I started pretty late but I made up for it by just playing A LOT, most people think I started earlier than I did. yay for me :D

Fedorov91 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2004 Really? wow, thats pretty impressive. I remeber reading about how he got his wrist cut open by a skate and couldn't play for almost a year. You figure that takes almost a year off of your development too...I think Khabibulin didn't start playing goalie until he was 14 (he was inspired after reading a book by Vladislav Tretiak)JovoCop started playing around 13-14Someone told me that Draper didn't start playing until he was 15... anyone know if thats true? (If it is, he turned out to be one hell of a skater!)I just find it amazing that some guys can have such a late start and make it to the NHL
Eazy_b97 1 Report post Posted October 12, 2004 Ya, I remember hearing Trevor Kidd started in net when he was like 13. I was impressed at the time because he was actually good when I saw that.
tokes 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2004 Didn't really learn to skate till I was 15. Parents didn't let me play organized hockey because they said it was too late for my to join, and basically didn't feel like driving me.
bulletproof_funk 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2004 I just find it amazing that some guys can have such a late start and make it to the NHLI read that Paul Kariya didn't seriously play hockey till high school. He took powerskating lessons when he was a kid and apparently did some competitive swimming at some time.

hip check 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2004 Thanks blackhawks - I was waiting for the other old guy to post!I started playing when I was 5 years old. I've played every year since. I'm 34 now. Twenty-nine years of hockey... not too bad. My dad's still playing and he's 59. You all got some work to do to catch him!I played Jr. D, and Sr. A up until a year ago, but too much travel and a new-born at home didn't mix. I decided to play in a couple of men's leagues in town the past couple of years. Non contact, but still fun.
