Can't get use to reg visors, what about tinted Visors?

Recommended Posts

I tried using reg visors, couldn't get use to the clearity difference. What about tinted visors? For those you have tried them or used them. Is there less of a difference?

Like when you have a visor on it seems really foggy to me and my eyes can't adjust cause they see under the visor a bit.

Just curious, what level do you play? If it's only rec level, you could try a lacrosse mask, they have great visibility and it's extremely unlikely that you'll get a puck or stick through it during a game (it is possible though, but you'd be safer than wearing nothing, or even a visor).

Umm I would never wear something like that. Might as well just wear a normal hockey cage.

Just a suggestion. The vision is a lot better than a typical hockey cage.

I wear a tinted visor due to an extreme light sensitivity that is really aggravated by the reflection of rink lights off the ice. Honestly, I barely ever look out of the area that is covered by the visor, and have no problem with any clarity shifts. I believe as long as you get a high quality visor and keep moving it will not fog too badly. Whenever mine fog it is always on the bench, but as soon as I get skating again it clears up.

Like how its tilted up? Yeah thats how I wear them else they fog up easily.

When it's tilted up it tends to trap more heat and fog more easily. You want the air to flow through as much as possible, meaning the visor should be as far from your face as you can make it and vertical. I've used a number of different visors and had teammates with ones that I haven't used. That has worked every time someone has had a fogging problem. Having it tilted back so it is out of your line of sight is pointless and people tend to develop a certain opinion of you. The faster you move the easier it is to keep your visor clear as the air movement will keep it from fogging most of the time.

That makes sense. More evidence of this principle is that when I used to wear a Concept II shield, I had no fogging problem. But if I swung it up out of the way while on the bench to wipe sweat from my forehead it would be fogged up when I brought it back down. So tilting the visor is probably worsening the problem.

Or maybe you're just not fast enough. Heheh, just kidding.

Haha yeah I'm going to have to skate more just to keep my visor from fogging up. Hmm maybe I should try a tinted visor cause my eyes are light sensitive. Is there a way to tint a reg visor just a little bit?

If you are going to go through all of the trouble to try and tint it your self you might as well just buy a new. That's just my opinion though.

Unless you're playing at an AHL or NHL rink with all the lights one, it's highly unlikely that you "need" a tinted visor.

What clarity difference are you referring to? Are you switching from a cage to a visor?

Having a tinted visor as opposed to the clear isn't going to make a difference it terms of clarity. The tinted visors helps keep the glare out of your eyes for those brightly lit arena's.

If you're having trouble with fogging issues, you can buy some anti fog spray or just rub a thin layer of baby shampoo on the visor before the game. There is a thread about visors fogging up.

i play with a tinted Oakley in regular local ice rink and have no vision issue whatsoever.

it help with the reflect of the ice and glare. so evrything look more natural less bright.

i need it bad, my eyes are very very light sensitive no matter how bright lighting is but a mirrored one is just overkill imo

I play with guys who wear al colour variations. Yellow, tinted mirrored, blue. I tried out a friends blue one on his helmet. What a sight that was playing with the smurfs. Just gelt horrible on my eyes. IMO A general tint is fine if your eyes hurt with a regular, but all these colours cross my eyes.

I play in a WHL rink thats about 10yrs old.

I wanted to try a visor before buying one. I have 3 visors sitting around that I don't use, thats why I was asking if a person could tint it just a bit.

But my eye's are light sensitive, I was on medication for 3 yrs that made them sensitive. During the day I have to wear sun glasses all the time. Driving at night is a mofo because of the on coming lights.

Im with you 100 % on that. The rink lights don't bother me, but the littlest amount of sunlight does. i always wear sunglasses, even on cloudy days, and in the snow especially.

I have an Itech X100 and Itech Recon, with the same replaceable snap in visor. With the pure half visor X100 I'd get some fogging on the bench by the 2nd period, but 5 - 6 strides onto the ice it clears up right away. With the Recon, it fogs a bit more by the than that, but 7-8 strides and it's all clear.

I can handle the rink lights but I squint like I'm chinaman. My one oakley visor I left some sweat on there and it ate through the protective anti-fog stuff.
