Loose Gloves

Recommended Posts

Hey fellow players. I was just wondering what you guys thought of looser gloves? I have heard of NHL players taking out the bottom part of the cuff on their gloves to have more wrist mobility. Any guys on here experiment with

removing the cuffs? Or liners?

I myself like looser gloves as it gives me better wrist moblity and there for better hands.

I go back to the 1970's and days of 16" long cuff COOPER, CCM, KOHO, and Jofa Gloves... Those really were the only manufacturers that you saw in the US or Canada. IMHO The shorter cuffs and wider openings help with wrist mobility. I know guys that cut the "air bladder\pads" out of the first generation Easton gloves to gain room and wrist flexibility. Some guys like really loose fitting gloves, some like them shug on the hands but loose around the wrists, and some wnat a combination of this fit.... that's a personal decision. I tried on some of the new 15" gloves tonight and while they were snug on the hand for me, the cuff design had both protection and flexibility. IMHO, still a far cry - protection wise - from when I was young..... In general, I still feel that most of the older gloves that I wore were more protective for the wrists and back of the hands than today's gloves (but there's a whole lot less slashing to the back of the hands than there was in through the 80's and early '90's.

Removing the stuff is psychological, there is nothing on a high end Eagle or Warrior glove that is restrictive in any way. At most they require a little break in time.

Personally I don't like removing any padding from gloves. But, I do prefer looser Traditional fitting gloves such as the bauer 4 roll or the Easton pro stock 4 roll, but I prefer not to mod them and use them as is because I'd rather not lower the level of protection and I'm satisfied with the fit of them already.

i had tried both, loose fit and fitting gloves. I dun feel any restriction of any sort at all, and the control and feel is very much better as compared to loose fitting. think its probably physiological.

Easton se16's feel like caves after they have been broken in. Get those puppys repalmed with your palm of choice (stock palms suck) and you have a fantastic loose fitting glove!

I adore my two pairs! I have msh2 palms on mine

I tried on a whole bunch of gloves yesterday as I needed new ones. I found a lot of differences in wrist mobility between higher end models. I ended up just going middle of the road with Bauer XXV's as they have awesome mobility, fit nice, and were on clearance.

So I find that gloves are not all mobile enough.

If you like a loose fitting glove, go for the TPS R8 or R10 glove. Great protection and very nice palms with a nice loose fit as well as being a very light weight glove. The only drawback in my opinion is they are a little bulky but the gloves lightness all but makes up for that. They give you great wrist and hand mobility as well. I highly recommend them.

For me, it was tough to beat Muskokas for a well protecting, loose fitting glove. Just got some Reebok Pro 4 rolls off Hockey Monkey so we'll see how those measure up.

I can agree with the "caves" statement, though I do like the stock palms and they've lasted me decently to this point. Here is a photo to try to show how much room around the wrist there is.

if you are in the market for a loose fitting glove, try on the CCM v08

i have the glove, and after repalming it after heavy use for 6 months, its holding up great, and i have plenty of wiggle room for my wrists, and i have tons of mobility and flexibility

I was wondering about this too, I had vapor xxx pros back in h/s and I loved them and this year I had to buy new gloves so I wanted to get the xxxx pros, but it was too late in the year and no one had them in green anymore so I had to go with regular xxxx gloves and I hate them. I didn't realize it until I switched back to my xxxs when I was back home and realized how much easier it was to move my wrists. The inside moveable cuff on the xxxx is way too restricting IMO and I have been thinking about cutting it out, but not really sure yet. Was thinking about just buying the new x:60 pros instead. Does anyone know if the cuff on the x:60 pro is similar to the vapor xxx?

IF you like loose gloves look for some pro stock bauer gloves . I had some and they were great. Although, I changed to eagle PPf gloves and they are amazing but a little tight on the cuff

Personally, I like the glove to fit really well, but it has to be very flexible. I use the RBK 9k gloves at the moment and those aren't too bad. It's really flexible in the palm, reasonably snug but the cuffs don't flare out.

I had a pair of TPS R8's that started out as 13's and ended up almost a 15 once broken in. Personally I like them as tight as humanly possible, so one man's trash...
