What generation of PPF's do I have?

Recommended Posts

I have two pairs of PPF's. The first pair I got about two months ago from Ice Warehouse. They are the all black ones. I just won a second pair on eBay and got them in the mail today. They are the black/white ones...

These seem to be very different. The exterior is the same (minus the colors), but the interior lining is different as is the palm overlay and the "Made In Canada" tag.

The lining on the blk/wht gloves have a red interior, which seems a bit thicker than that on the all black gloves. The liner also runs all the way to the end of the fingers. The all black model do not have any top-of-the-finger padding and have a "hollow" feel in the fingers...

The palm overlay on the blk/wht gloves are more of a black color. The all black have the same overlay as the rest of the palm and gussets.

The blk/wht gloves Canadian Flag Tag has "Made in Canada" above the flag. The all black have just the flag, with no print...

Below are some pictures...

Flag inside is post-buyout while flag outside is pre-buyout. I have both versions and IMO could not see any difference in fit or quality between them. My current PPF's (the retros have the new red liner in them):

I have both and I feel the post buyouts are tighter.

Same here. I currently have a pair of X70s circa 2008, and they were so much looser then the previous years model that I tried on. In fact when I tried on some post buyout PPFs they felt just like the 2007 ones, tight fit and stiff padding.

Pre Vaughn-Eagle PPF are miles ahead in my opinion. Almost seems like they cheapened up the gloves to get down to a better price point when Vaughn came in. I got my PPF's when Eagle first released them and love them. Just not the same feel when I try on the new ones though

do you notice any difference in fit between the two? particularly width and length (fingertips to end of cuff)...

The fit on the ones with the red liner is tighter. The interior padding is thicker. They have only been used twice so far though. Overall, I like the tighter fit, so I hope the foam does not compress/mold-in a ton more... The length is the same between the two as is the actual width measurement of the rolls.

Thanks for the replies so far... As I stated, I really like the liner of the black/white ones with the red liner. White Tufftek is already a PITA though!!!! (any cleaning tips???)

I am glad to have gotten another pair before I ordered my customs. Pretty much all I want is the new/tighter fit ones with mesh gussets and shorter cuff extensions... (and material/color options of course).

BUMP.

Gefitlefish - Any update on the feel of the two different gloves? I am about to pull the trigger on a pair of PPFs from IW, but I can't decided which one I want. I like the look of the '09 better with the white outline as opposed to 'EAGLE' being written in all white. But, I was wondering if the new liner and palm overlay is worth it.

To anybody who has had both - How do the two fit differently? Any recommendations? It was mentioned that the '10 model is tighter fitting, but how much tighter? Any insight about the two years would be great! Thanks guys!

I currently have '08 Eagle X72s and I like the fit, FWIW.

I agree 100%. I was using a pair of pre-Vaughn Eagles before they bit the dust and I custom ordered a pair of post-Vaughn Eagles and the difference in quality is huge. Like TBLFan mentioned the foam blocks are more boxy and the fit just isn't the same.

Slightly off topic but my Franchises fit much better than the current Eagles. I know lots of people are ordering Warriors just because it's a bit of a "me-too" sort of glove but if I were to order a pair of gloves again I'd go with Warrior instead.

Here's a little tip, HM still has some pre-vaugn PPFi's and I'm assuming other models as well. I ordered a pair 2 weeks ago and the flag was on the outside of the cuff. I'm trying to get 1 more pair so they will last me for at least a couple years, so don't grab them all. :D

Just to add to this, I purchased a couple more pairs today and I had the sales person confirm where the flag was placed on the gloves and here is the confirmation I received back: (I would recomend getting a sales rep to pull the gloves so you know your getting the older version)

"The Canadian flag is located on the outside of the cuff for both pairs – on the x72i it’s simply a Canadian flag on a black background; on the PPFi it’s the Canadian flag on a white background with the words “Made in Canada” embroidered above the flag."

You can't beat that for $130 + Serp10 code works.
