Un-tinting Visors

Recommended Posts

So, I got a blue tinted oakley pro straight visor for free. However, I don't feel the need to look like a complete moron out on the ice when I feel I need to break out a half-shield for pickup/sticktime as well as the fact that its near impossible to see through. Is there anyway you could either remove the tint from the visor or at least dye it into a regular dark (black) tinted visor?

If you can't see through it now, making it darker isn't going to help.

is there any point, other than looking like a moron to the blue visor?

The blue and yellow visors are designed to help with adjusting to darker rinks, at least the yellow is. It brightens everything up. I used one for a couple games and it seemed to work well, I just got tired of the chirps and unnecessary hacks so I took it off. I imagine the blue would serve some similar purpose.

I have converted my mirrored HS22 in clear, with sandpaper and polish paste for car body.

OMG... I thought I had heard most of the retarded things ever done to hockey equipment; until I read this post. I feel to need to ask a question or make a comment but I'm still in shock.

Couple fights, few boardings, few highstickings. The visor began looking ugly. Worst thing was when looking through out it. Like have bad vision. Looks like new one now! :) :) :)

the posted link states it doesn't remove tint just the anti scratch. I know for reg tinting ammonia pulls it off but you've gotta use super fine steel wool to remove the adhesive. Works great on glass I have no idea what it would do to plastic but I thought I'd throw it out there

It would take a lot of work and more than a little know-how about the right tools and compounds, but wet sanding and polishing a visor is most certainly possible. I've got papers and polishing compounds for aircraft windshields that could certainly do the job. Not saying it would be worth the time and effort for me personally, for something as easy to replace as a visor, but I wouldn't be so quick to assume it was a completely whacked idea.

Wow Bob, looks pretty damn good. What grit sandpaper did you use though??

2000 grit of sandpaper by hands, and Farecla G3 paste on G-Mop Compound head. All process took about 30 minunutes. I think more rapid paste can be used for start, like G6.

P.S. I did it very slow and gently for first time, actually it can be done much faster.

I know that might have worked on a mirrored visor because the coating is definately external, but would it work on a tinted visor? I'm not sure if they just use a tinted coating or whether it's actually a coloured plastic

Did anyone try this?

I've got a tinted Oakley visor that I want to try & untint, but if it's going to cock it up there's no point in trying
