Recommended Posts

So I recently picked up a couple pro stock S19's, how am I able to tell if them are real S19's or repainted something elses?

well one way to tell would be the taper. if it is the elliptical taper then chances are it is the S19 (but could be S17) and if it has a square taper then it is a SE16 or ST most likely.

look at the taper, a square taper is likely an se16, st, or some variant along those line. If it is an elliptical taper, it's a bit tougher to tell. S19 has a rounder taper, the s17 is a bit flatter.

it is hard to tell by the taper, I can tell it is not an 17, its not that big eliptical taper. I would say its more square but does bow up a bit on the top?

there is a barcoded sticker at the top that says SYENHL GR KUNITZ L PIT (I obviously know its a Kunitz pro stock LH stick and he plays for Pittsburgh)

SYNENHL means FIRST generation Synergy Elite. It's still one of the two most common Easton sticks in the NHL, that and the S T. Really very few players have used an actual SE16 or s19, though I think we all know that by now <_<

I picked up a Wojtek Wolski S19 today. Sticker on top says S19NHL WOLSKI L COL. There are some number/letters on back of stick area.

B

W | 2 Y | 10

Has an elliptical taper shape and the main shaft area has rounded corners. Blade has a gritty texture to it. Not sure what flex it is. The store had some other S19's from Fiddler & Schneider and they had square corners. (Fiddler sticker said SE16 or SYEN if I recall)

Anyone know if this one is real S19?

pretty simple stuff guys: if its got an elliptical taper its an S19, if its got a standard shaped taper, its not. there is NO reason why easton would repaint an S17 to look like an S19.

I have a stick that is a one90 painted to look like a one95.

I'd heard reports that there were some NHLers still using S17s. Not many, but some. And you can bet your ass Easton wouldn't be painting them to look like S17s now that the S19 is out.

heres my reasoning: most of the sticks painted as S17s last year were actually other models, as is very well known around here. if a player was using a genuine S17 we would know because of the shape of the taper. it doesn't take a high school graduate to see the difference between an S17/S19 and any other stick on the market. if you're an uninformed or ignorant consumer who only looks at the graphics, then i can see where you'd be confused. i dont think we even need to get into that.

the S19 was an improvement of the technology that debuted with the S17. Any and all players interested would have been reissued an S19 in an attempt by the pro rep to get that player to use the new stick ("you didnt like the S17... try this", "you liked the S17... this is even better!", "hey, you've been using that ST/SYE for years, give this a try in practise today" or whatever). those that liked it would have kept it and those that didnt would have been sent their standard/trusty Easton stick (elite, ST, etc) with the S19 graphics painted over top.

as for the one90->one95 argument. the one95 was a significantly different stick than the one90, whereas the S19 essentially just identified and improved the flaws of their new technology. the stick itself is relatively the same.

False.
