Widest of the Bauer helmets

Recommended Posts

Which is the widest helmet of the new Bauer helmets? My son's head is very round. So it's perhaps as wide as it is long. We have to order since our options here are so limited. To try on gear we have to take a long road trip that include a boring and expensive ferry trip to Sweden.

Thanks

Why does it have to be Bauer? The CCM Vector and RBK helmets are pretty well suited to round head shapes. The boring and expensive ferry ride is the best way to go to make sure you get the right fit.

My son has the same problem. He couldn't find a CCM or Reebok that would work.

He had the bauer 8500 the last two seasons and it worked great for him with the occipital lock.

He just got a 9900, and it is causing some discomfort on the sides, behind the temples. It may "break" in as the gel pads mold a little...we will see.

Bauer 5100, 5500

Did you try the CCM Vector V08?

I have a big ole blockhead (thanks to my German grandfather) and I'm comfortable in the CCM V08 and Bauer 5100

Only because we can order Bauer through our hockey club.

I wear a pretty large fitted hat size (last one I bought was a 7 3/8s I think) & I love my Bauer 5100 helmet (before that I had a Bauer 4000 & it was pretty comfortable too).

Best advice is to go try a whole bunch on & find the one that is the most comfortable...hopefully you can find a Bauer one since that seems to be your preference.

I tried many different helmets, found them easily long enough, but very few wide enough. In Bauer, I tried 8000, 8500, 9500, 5100, and 4500; I may have tried others, but don't recall. I found the 4500 the widest, 5100 a bit narrower, and all others too narrow. I tried large and extra large; the 4500 width seemed the same in both. With the 5100 I went to XL, and that's what I bought. I stretched the width a little bit, and now it fits fine.

Been a member here for quit some time now, and read about hockey gear here every day. So I'm quit aware that you should try on gear before purchasing it. Was trying to get away with saving some time and money (the cost alone would pay for the helmet and it's an all day round trip), but after reading the wide range of answers we'll have to make a family trip to Sweden to try on as many helmets as we can. He's only 5, but his Itech youth helmet is too small. We've tried on some of the helmets older kids in the club have, but they were all too narrow. Gots his mom's head ;)

By the way, the rep at our club told me to go with the Bauer 7500.

Thanks for all the replies though.

That's not actually that big of a hat size. In any case, I agree with your advice on trying them on, especially for a kid with a head that is going to keep growing anyway.

Hmmm...maybe its bigger than I typed, its been years since I bought/looked at the tag as I stopped wearing fitted hats.

The 4500's and 5100's are too narrow for my head. I bought the last 5500 I could find, but the 8500/9900 seems similar in terms of fit. The Messier M11 also fit really, really well. I'd go with that one personally. Three teammates, one with a narrow head and two with regular heads have them, and they all love them.

My son is 5 as well. Very round head, 53cm around. RBK 6K and 8K Small are too narrow for him. Medium is fine width wise, but it is too long at the lowest setting.

We have been using Bauer 4500 in Adult small. It is a perfect width. Also, I have made it a little longer and put in velcro tabs for my goalie sweat bands (I use thin, older Itech ones). Now he does not get sweat in his eyes and he says that helmet is very comfortable. We have not tried 8500 or 9500 as nobody stocks them here in Houston.

How can they be too narrow for you, and the only ones wide enough for me? This helmet fitting is getting even more confusing.

I found the L & XL 4500 fine, and the XL 8500 & 9500 too tight. I didn't try a 5500.

The M11 was snug, but I don't think it was too tight for me. I just didn't like the shell being split in the back.

I found the 5500 too narrow, a large 5500 won't go on my head. A large 4500 is a little loose but a medium is too tight. I could wear a medium in the 9500 helmet.

Who knows. The medium 4500 was like a vice grip on me, medium 5100 was a little better, medium 5500 really close. The old Intake was perfect, M11 is perfect, CCM and RBK were not shaped right.

Really disappointed the S19 didn't fit either. Medium wobbled around and the small wouldn't go on my head.

Well, at least we each got something that works.
