On a differnet note, looks like the leafs are going to tweak their jersey and add the stripes around the waist and shoulder patches.

I thought they were waiting for a new "Mr.Maple Leafs" ever since Sundin left.

So I wasn't really expecting this kind of passive decision (or was it?).

I don't think he's the Captain Toronto guy they're looking for, and I didn't think of him as that locker room role model kind of player either.

Other than Phaneuf...I'd say Beauchemin is their only other option.

Komisarek had Captain potential, once...but now, he's spends more time injured than on the ice.

Bingo, Phaneuf is the best available option, but given this is a guy that got traded out of Calgary because of attitude problems, I doubt inflating his ego is going to make things better. Had he actually stepped his game up once he got traded I wouldn't be worried, but we never saw that change. The major downside to this is that TSN will be serving even more Dion Phaneuf Kool-Aid then before, and its seems that Leafs nation is more than willing to drink it all and ask for refills.

Its not that Markov wouldn't be a good captain (can't tell for sure, I'm not in the locker room) but he only has 1 year left in Montreal and something tells me hes (sadly) gonna go somewhere else. Also I think Gill is going to be the captain, for what its worth ahah.

you can officially count the canucks as captainless as we all know the rule about goalies wearing the 'C'.

from what i've read, he made an immediate impact on and off the ice. he's vocal in the room, he's vocal on the ice and bench during games and in practice and he demands alot out of himself, his teammates and his team. that sounds like captain material to me... especially when brian burke is your boss and ron wilson is your coach. you need to be pretty headstrong to be the voice of your team when dealing with those guys.

This is pretty much spot on from what I was going to say......I think this is a good move and should force him to mature a bit more (if that really is an issue anyways)

He actually might make an alright captain. I just hope the media doesnt eat him alive after games. Hopefully he has some thick skin.

Yes, but only if he know how to communicate in a way that inspires and push his teammates in the right way. It's not how much you talk, it's how you say it IMO..
