The old 690 bucket kicked the can the other night, shortly after it very likely saved me from a serious injury. Long story but in no check I left my feet to avoid a collision and came down in a rut in the ice. I litterally got spun around and I ended up slamming my arse to the ground which resulted in a whiplash affect that slammed the back of my head to the ice as hard as I have ever experienced. So hard in fact that the mask mounts snapped off the helmet and left my mask dangling by one screw and the temple piece.

I finished the shift (because as Bucci would say I am a "hockey player")and when I returned to the bench the guys handed me some peices of my helmet (mostly mounting parts). They initially thought that I stepped on the parts and went down. When I told them that the parts broke off my helmet when my head slammed to the ice they almost crapped themselves. It was a heck of a head hit and I had no real ill affects aside from a slight neck tweak I felt the next morning. I was wearing a Shock Doctor DNA mouth guard and the Jofa 690. Hats off to both products.

The helmet shell did not crack but the mounting screws are so rusted that there is no way to remove them without trashing the helmet. Also the foam liners feels like it loosened up as well.

Anyway, the 690 had the black liner (similar material to a bike helmet) with the gray memory foam pads, it was the newest model of the 690 prior to being discontinued. I need a black Large. If any of you shop owners have one laying around please let me know. I made rounds around Minneapolis/St Paul yesterday and no luck, found Mediums and Blues but none in my size or color. It gave me hope someone might have one. I also checked all the usual online shops and no luck. I may have to move on but I thought I would give MSH a shot.

PS I hope my request in this post is not against board rules.

I also love the Jofa 690 and would love to pick some more up. I don't know of anyone that still has any remaining stock of these, but the helmet is still being made and marketed as the RBK 5k over in europe. I do highly doubt that anyone over there would be willing to ship to the United States or Canada. The link below shows the RBK 5k on the european hockeymonkey site.

I get stuff shipped from NA to Europe all the time so why wouldn't it work the other way around? Ask them.

Don't they sell the 5k in NA??? In any case, you will definitely find the same technology in the higher-end models.

The factory of Jofa is in Malund, Sweden, and they were bought by RBK a few years ago. I'm actually quite upset that they no longer sell the Jofa products, and they now commercialise it under the RBK brand, which pisses me off. However, I don't think the products themselves are so different.

HockeyMonkey.eu carries the Reebok 5K (which is the same helmet, rebranded) you may have some difficulty getting one from a major retailer over there though. I believe they're not allowed to ship certain product to the US, and since this is an item Reebok doesn't sell here, I suspect its on the list.

A kid on one of the Great Britain teams at Junior Olympics had one, so you may want to check some hockey shops in the UK.

Why isn't the 5K part of the US line?

Who knows. Could be a marketing decision, maybe it doesn't comply with the current HECC standards (or getting it re-certified is too costly for the anticipated demand).

Looking over at HECC.net, neither the 5K nor the 690 are HECC certified. I can't say whether that is because it can't pass, or because it would cost to much to make it economically viable for Reebok to get it passed, but that may shed some light on why its not sold here.

I assume it just didn't sell well enough to justify renewing its certification, or its continued production/sale for the North American market. I imagine the price of producing a 690 is probably roughly the same as making a RBK 6K, but they wouldn't be able to sell as many of them, or sell them for the same price, because it wasn't a very popular helmet here compared to other models. I'm sure it could pass the tests if they wanted to sell in North America - the Bauer 4500 is still certified after all these years. I imagine it sold/sells much better in Europe, so that's why it stays on the market there. If I ever travel to Europe, I'm coming home with five of them.

I too know the pain of trying to find this helmet online (particularly in a large). I warn you that you probably won't find one. Any site you check, I've probably checked it three times already.

I gave up for good recently and got a Bauer 9500. Living in Ottawa, I always thought I might be able to get my hands on a Daniel Alfredsson pro-stock. One day, I did - the Sens store had one. I was horrified to learn that Alfredsson wears a medium.

Haha day late and a dollar short. I emailed HM EU. We will see what they say about shipping here. I could care less if it is HECC approved. It saved me.

Unless you get one of the new Euro models, it will most likely be several years old at this point and the foams will have degraded.

Chadd, you're talking to a dude in a city populated with a large number of drop in hockey players outfitted in the old Jofa Gretzky buckets. I've even played with 20-25 yr olds who wear these buckets in leagues or drop in games.

MNpucker? I will look around, but I'm pretty sure I've got a Jofa 690 laying around. I had two at one point, now I'm down to one.

Has anyone tried to get the Reebok 5k(690)helmet shipped to North America? I have emailed a couple sites, with no response. I am guessing I won't be able to get one with out a connection in the EU, but I thought I'd ask.

It looks like monkey EU allows international orders as long as reebok allows sales outside EU you it looks like should be able to order it.
