tinted oakley visors

Recommended Posts

hey there

i just bought a new oakley pro cut visor and when i was in the store i noticed that you could buy a blue, yellow and black tinted visor. What is the point of these? The blue looks absolutly ridiclious....you better have some dangles if you want to pull any of those off in my opinion

Honestly, everyone I've ever played against with a tinted oakley has been garbage.

Now, that being said, I wouldn't mind picking up a yellow one. There's a few places in jersey that sell them, mainly up north.

I use the chrome one, and I think it def. good looking, but I dont see the point of getting one, unless you play in some big time arena. If you've ever been on a rink like an NHL rink, you know its reallyy bright, or at least really bright by my standards. The light kinda makes me nervous and chlostrophobic(sp?) so I use a mirrored visor to cut down on the glare and make the lights less of a factor. If you dont play in a very brightly lit arena, I dont see why you should get one. But what is the blue visor for? What purpose does it serve, other than look different?

The yellow can help make the rink appear brighter. The colored models aren't certified but aren't unsafe.

I wanted to buy na oakley visor but they arent safe apparently. Somebody wanna tell me why?

They meet all the same safety standards that ITech visors have to meet, so what doesn't make them safe?

I think you're talking about what Chadd said, how the colored ones aren't certified but the clear ones are.

Chadd, do you know if the mirrored one is certified or?

Yeah, I thought most Oakley visors weren't certified? I have a straight cut 1Xcel (same thing) and theres a sticker on it that says its not csa or hecc certified. Anyone know if Oakley makes a tinted full visor or a half visor half cage?

Some half visors are certified, some aren't. The mirrored ones aren't. As to whether you can use them or not, it'll depend on how diligent your ref's are, and what rules you play by. Under IIHF rules if you're born after Jan 1 1975 you must wear at least a certified half visor. If you're older you can wear whatever you like I guess.

Here for football you can only have clear visors, becuase If a trainer thinks you have a concussion he needs to see your eyes. If the visor is colored or tinted it may be hard to see the persons eyes. So that may be why there considered unsafe also

Lots of people play with a non-certified visor anyway. I actually see better with my cage than with my half. But I find that the half has better ventilation and I can wipe the sweat off my face whenever I want. Without opening the cage that is.

I wear a non-certified half visor myself. I haven't been called up on it yet. We had one of the ref's using one for a while too. He didn't seem to realise that there wear certified and uncertified visors - though this is in New Zealand, so the refereeing standard is down around the level of play, which is to say not world-beating.

boys, in order for a half shield to be certified, there are two main criteria that it must meet. first, the visor must be mounted to the front of the helmet, as well as the side, so that if you get hit in the face, the visor can not lift up or get pushed down. secondly, the half shield has certain size standards that it must meet. has to cover to a certain point on the face. (ie... itech's hx 50, hlc / hlc deluxe. the rbe 5 and the 42ce are exceptions... they have individual screw holes on the side that prevent the shield from moving... alowing certification. but the 42ce is only certified in canada?

with regards to the tint... coloring does not change certification... none of the shields that come in tints are certified styles.... at least not from itech.

For mickz.... there used to be full shields offered years ago that were in smoke and yellow. they are not legal, and not produced anymore... for the same reason that was mentioned for football. a trainer or emt has to be able to view the eyes clearly... therefor, no tinted visors are certified, and not built.
