My BASE Stick

Recommended Posts

C'mon guys, it's a F-ing finish. And they're already doing multiple customizable options. They've given you "matte" or "clear", but those aren't good enough, so now they're supposed to offer you another finish in the form of matte clearcoat? Get real, boys. If you order it without clearcoat, don't expect it to look as good. That's how it goes...

Get real? Yes a Matte clear coat should be offered. To keep the stick in good shape. His sharkskin is already peeling off after 2 ice times. That's ridiculous.

To be clear, this shouldn't be a third option. This should be what the Matte option is.

Is there clear coat over the graphics or were they just put on top of the stick?

The graphics are put on top of the stick. My graphics are peeling off and I haven't even used the stick yet! As long as the stick performs well, it isn't a huge deal to me.

Ztac sometimes did that or even shipped with chips peeled off. I have a stick with Ztac that is missing a chunk the size of a silver dollar, never used.

I've had a couple of pro sticks with Ztac coating as well as my buddy, that stuff isn't made to last and peels off very easily so I don't think it's a knock on BASE's quality to say that it's peeling off when other sticks from the big names companies have the same issue.

Just to note, none of these items affect my feelings towards the stick as they in no way impair its ability to be an effective hockey stick. But I figured a portion of people on the site would like to be aware of such things.

It's the weekend, I'd expect that they will email you back tomorrow.

Right you were. I heard back from Nikki first thing this morning. Remained in touch with her and ordered my stick today. Really excited to get it.

No news isn't always good news. Ordered my stick one week ago today at 11 in the morning. Haven't heard anything regarding shipping, problems, updates...nada. My ccard wasn't even charged. So I sent Nikki a email tonight. She got back very quickly and didn't really have any update whatsoever. I was asked to give them another 24 hours before they have any idea on when it will ship. Guys and gals, don't go by the 5-7 days since the order will be in. Based ONLY on my order, it might be 5-7 + shipping. They didn't even know if it was built yet :/ Updates as I get them.

I remember seeing on their FB it's more like 7-10 days from order to delivery, which seems sensible as someone posted that orders go out at noon on Wednesdays. I would also assume that location impacts delivery time. I can't comment on the potential lack of order processing however.

What'd you end up going with?

Went with the 75 flex, senior Savoy. Grip finish, BH23 curve (Drury), 5.5 Lie. I got the black/red finish to match my team's colors and E BOND 71 on the nameplate. Was going to get my team logo put on, but didn't have access to a .JPG as I was on my phone, so I just skipped that part.

Your review on the stick so far definitely helped sway my decision. I was holding out for the TotalONE, but my stick suddenly snapped on me last week, so I'm back to using wood until the BASE stick comes in.

And as regards to the shipping, Nikki told me about 7-10 days as well.

I just put in my order as well this week. Went with a 75 flex, Jovo/P02, Naked shaft finish. The pattern is called BC05, and was done after the catalog was released.

For anyone interested, the Sharkskin finish on the shaft is similar to Inno/Warrior polarfibre. Nikki mentioned it's a different application process, but that it's going to feel and perform similarly. They also don't necessarily 'recommend' going with it on the shaft because it's going to be very hard on your glove palms.

Obviously, I'm also going to do an extensive review when I get the stick. Not quite sure what to expect, really, because the information that's been available so far seems so varied. So far, Nikki has been extremely helpful, professional, and informative. She will answer any inquiries promptly.

EDIT: I'll always be a Warrior guy, and will continue to use Warrior. I just wanted to give either Brooklynite or Base a good, long, honest look and decided to go with Base for now. I may check out a Brooklynite offering later this season.

I understand the interest, cause everyone likes new sticks, but I'm curious as to why the "average joe's" here are paying a fair amount of money for an essentially unreviewed and untested product, especially when there's so many good sticks out there.

Maybe a few objective reviews (not by people who have paid for them) would be in the company's interest, if indeed they've got a solid product offering....?

Simply put, because I don't want to be 'told' what to use. So what if no one has used the product? I can decide for myself, thanks. I like what I've read about Base so far, and I particularly like companies with an indie aesthetic. If it's junk, or doesn't work for me, I'll be the first to admit it. Just because a ton of pros use Bauer, doesn't mean I think it's good product. It doesn't work for me, and I will never use a Bauer product in my life. To answer the last part of your question, hockey is my one and only vice, and I have the funds to try different things.

I saw a great quote once that read, "Always and never are two words you should always remember never to use."

Update.......

No word from Base yet on status of my stick.

What is the bc05?

I called a couple times to Base to get some information but I missed them due to the time zone difference. Everyone is talking pattern options/finishes - am I correct to assume that you get a .pdf or something to review with all of the custom options or is the ordering done all over the phone? I'm curious because I would like to see all of the pattern options & finishes on paper/screen first before I start the ordering process.

I just asked for the pdf today and got it from Nikki shortly after. It's not incredibly detailed, but it allows you to see the options available when placing an order. I'm considering placing an order in a few weeks.

i received a PDF today from BASE and the patterns were limited. there was a Zetterberg, Iginla, Sakic, Drury clones

do you need to ask BASE directly for more blade option and finishes on the stick?

Since several have a pdf of the options, can it be posted here for the rest of us? It's not like anyone signed a non-disclosure confidentiality agreement with Base.

Sorry, the website/FB is BS way of handling business. Perhaps I'm an old coot, but it does not make me want to crack open the wallet when I have to ask for something that should be posted regardless of how many fanboys there are.
