shockdoctor powerdry issues

Recommended Posts

I've searched and didn't find anything.

I've recently purchased a purchased a shock doctor power dry bag as well as the power dry blower….I used it for about a week, with both heat and ozone but received no heat output…I thought this was normal and caulked it off to it not needing heat…two days ago, I turned it on, and sure enough I got heat…so I assumed the unit was damaged, and was acting strange with intermittent heat, and took it back to the store I purchased it from…the store tested it, and exchanged it on the spot…the new unit I received worked great, for the first cycle I used it…I got home tonight, plugged it in, turned it on, and again no heat at all. I been checking on it frequently

anyone with this unit have similar issues? it's frustrating, as this is not a cheap piece.

This is the first I heard of the heat not working. Still, just go get another one. Did you get the standard heater or the high output one?

Once you get a good blower, you are going to love this bag/setup. I couldn't live without mine, playing 4 days in a row weekly and with ice a cold garage, equip just won't dry by itself. I've had my bag/blower for 5 yrs and the blower/heat is still going strong.

I got the regular one, u?

it's weird, after making that post last night, I went to switch the gear around/check on it, and there was heat...go figure?!

I'll keep my eye on it...I emailed shock doctor today as well, and nothing yet.

glad to hear about your positive feedback, I am debating if I made the right choice, but sounds like I did...I'm stuck to the garage in the winter for my stuff as well, and playing 4-5 times a week in wet/cold gear SUCKS

Yeah, I'd say take this one back if you think you need to. I have one, and the only problem I had with it was the timer knob breaking off. I have to use a butter knife to turn it on. I use it only for drying my own gear and my two son's gear, but not for dragging my gear around with it. Good luck!

Nooo way! My timer knob just broke the other night.

I found the knob to be off target on timer, so I tried to fix it. Other than that, the blower has been great alongside the bag!

Guys, write to SD, they'll send you a new knob. Mine broke as well. I found if you turn the knob while standing up, you put upwards torque on it and it will break. If you crouch down when you turn turn it, without upwards pressure, it will last long time.

To have to crouch down to turn the knob is ridiculous.

my email was sunday, and nothing yet

we'll see, lol

After I broke my knob, I got a replacement from SD, as well as a bag of them in case other customers had same problem. Perhaps your LHS has some spares. SD has great customer service so I'm sure they'll take care of you. Again, when you get your new knob, if you don't pull up on it while turning it, you won't have issues.

Thanks, jimmy, I'll try writing SD.

it has been a while...

So shockdoctor never replied to my email about my broken timer knob. and just the other night I left the bag running, since it has the automated timer. to my surprise, the next morning, it was still on! I've been playing around with it since and haven't found it to do it again. anyone else sharing a similar problem? I might contact shockdoctor again though...

I have left mine to collect dust and just use a box fan.

Once or twice since the summer I have run it give a dose of ozone to my gear.

Just came across this in another thread, figured I'd give my experience. Got a great deal on a Shock Dr. bag and fan for my son and wound up getting a bag for myself. Never found it to work all that well. Then the knob fell off. Now the fan no longer works, it just makes this loud humming noise and sounds dangerous. The fan sits in a closet, my son hated his bag and has moved on, I'm still using mine but it's getting pretty beat up.

I got one for my fiancee for Christmas; a medium sized bag and the orange power blower. After only a couple of months of light usage (used once or twice a week, a couple times a month), the plastic around the opening (where you attach it to the bag) is starting to warp. Also, it doesn't seem to be outputting much heat, if any.

I don't see any power dry products on the Shock Doctor website, and it seems harder and harder to find those bags/blowers in stores. I wonder if they're getting out of the blower business?

How loud are those things anyway? The high output ones... just a humm or is it a full-on fan like an air mattress pump?

Very quiet. Like a small fan.

I have had my HD for over a year now with no problems. I never use heat though and only use the dual port attachment.

I got the high output blower - works great so far. You do need to make sure your equipment is organized correctly in bag; I also take out shirts/socks, etc. I live in a smallish city apartment - and I couldn't be more pleased with how quiet and effective it is in reducing odor, and it's great to put on dry, decent smelling gear!

So I live in a one-bedroom apartment in Philly with my wife and I'm looking to get back into playing hockey. The only thing that's been detracting me so far is where to store and dry my equipment since I don't want to get hockey stench all over our apartment. I had been resigned to just storing in the car trunk and washing the equipment once a week, but then I saw the Shock Doctor Power Dry bag.

What's been people's experiences with it generally? Does it actually work in drying equipment and reducing stench? Would I be able to bring it my apartment to hook up and dry and then store in my trunk?

Any thoughts/suggestions would be much appreciated.

It does dry the equipment, but usually takes two 3 hour cycles. It's big and bulky so I would recommend just leaving it in the apartment and use another travel bag to carry to and from the rink. The only time I use it away from home is when I'm going to a tournament or playing out of town and staying over night, but other than that it just stays in one spot in my condo.

Ozone is known to break down rubber, has anyone noticed this in their gear ( stretchy straps losing elasticity) etc... ?

That's a good point; I haven't noticed that yet.

As to why SD no longer carries this - they told me that they no longer control the patents to this; that could be for a number of reasons, but my sense was that someone bought their patents around this; maybe one of the big manufacturers is going to make and market a new version. I hope so because it's a really great idea.

Wait, the don't carry or make the bag/blower product anymore?
