The 2010-2011 Suspension Thread

Recommended Posts

coulton gilles is probably going to get another suspension - just hit clutterbuck and got tossed

I would correct his first name for you but he's not even worth the effort. Versus was rippin him mad hard. He's a useless plug, can't even skate or play the game. It's his first damn game back from the suspension. The Islanders should be embarrassed...

and played in one NHL game in the for the Ducks, recording 21 penalty minutes in 2 minutes, 40 seconds of ice time.

From wikipedia..

guy shouldn't even be in the league. How the hell do you rack up 21 PIM in 2:40 of ice time?

Well, not to be outdone, he got 15 mins in only 1:51 TOI last night! I watched this guy play for years in Albany (Carolina's AHL affiliate at the time). He was a scrub then who tried to be an agitator, but would regularly get tuned up in fights with the guys he started s*** with. He's a joke, and if taunting an injured player wasn't enough of a sign that he has no respect, doing virtually the same thing (sans punching the guy) in his first game back from a 9 game suspension just goes to show how he will never, ever learn.

He should get 20 (or whatever the Isles have left this season).

I'm interested in seeing what they give him considering Clutterbuck wasn't hurt. I can't believe he was involved in an incident like this again already.

I forgot to reply to the quote lol. I don't think they'll give him 20 but that would be nice!

To be honest, I'm not so sure. Gillies point of impact on Clutterbuck was on his shoulder from the side and he was reacting to what in real time looked like a bad hit that Clutterbuck made on another Islander.

Would the reaction be anything even close to what it has been if it wasn't Gillies who hit Clutterbuck?

Probably not but at the same time, the league needs to teach those boneheads a lesson. I mean, what's wrong with the Isles? They've got 4 boneheads in Martin, Healey, Konopka (to a lesser extent, maybe?)and Gillies up with the team. Are they that short on minor leaguers that possess at least minimal potential?

No-way. It's almost a non-story (in my opinion), but since it's his first game back from a lengthy suspension and he's doing virtually the same thing that he was suspended for (a high elbow/forearm to the head) it draws attention because people are shocked at how he can be such an idiot.

not to mention a coach who seems to condone this boneheaded play.

Maybe the best punishment they could give him is to make him play on Long Island for the remainder of his career....

Hey I wouldn't go as far as saying that, the Isles have been playing good hockey.

Clutterbuck's hit was worse than Gillies, karma is a bitch when you play the type of game that Clutterbuck plays. Personally, I think Gillies last suspension was overkill, more for the taunting than for the hit itself. The sad thing is, when Clutterbuck hits a guy like that, there's rarely a penalty, let alone a suspension.

What? Clutterbuck is hardly a clean player, but in this case Gillies retaliates, hits a guy without possession of the puck, and targets the head with his forearm. His last suspension wasn't even close to being enough. It wasn't just for taunting, it was targeting the head, continuing to hit a player while he was down, taunting, and the subsequent concussion. There's no reason for him to be in the league. He averages 3 minutes of ice time and rarely plays what any sensible person could refer to as hockey.

You might want to take another look at the hit on Clutterbuck. Gillies connects with him on the shoulder and the recoil of the hit puts Clutterbuck's head off the glass. I didn't see Gillies targeting the head on him.

You might want to take a look at the the Minnesota feed that shows the other angle. Gillies follows through with his left forearm that strikes Clutterbuck in the face. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HObjS14bPuU&feature=player_embedded

I totally support Gillies hit on clutterbuck. If you wanna make questionable hits on other players, you should have to take that kind of hit back. An eye for an eye makes us all even

Look again. The only part of Gillies that comes close to Clutterbuck's head are his fingers scraping the chin. There was no forearm to the head. I'm going out on a limb here but I'm guessing that you're a Wild fan.

You can climb back off of the limb because I don't care for either team involved here. It's pretty difficult to take any conversation on here seriously when there's delusional fans who choose to not see past their team colors despite what ever incriminating evidence exists right in front of their face. Scraped his chin, sure. Next you're going to tell me that Gilles is a bonafide hockey player on any level above beer league.

Gillies deserved every second of that 9 game suspension. The hit and subsequent cheap shots on Tangradi were some of the most gutless play in hockey.

I don't think Gillies has much use on the rink at all. That said, reputation seems to be the driving factor in the reaction to this latest hit and not the facts of the hit itself.

The league found someone they could use as a whipping boy.

When the Penguins actually do something to Matt Cooke then maybe you'll be right.

In my opinion Mario would have done something well before this if he was serious about changing Cooke's behavior.

Cooke was wearing an "A" the other night, I think that explains how they feel about him quite well.
