The 2010-2011 Suspension Thread

Recommended Posts

Seabrook should have been looking where he was skating. I mean c'mon I play defense and when I come around the net I'm not looking at the ice or behind me, he should know guys are coming around to take his head off.

He wasn't going anywhere, he was waiting for the puck to come around to him. There is actually a rule against hitting guys that don't have the puck.

Benoit Pouliot just left his feet to throw an elbow at the back of Johnny Boychuk's head against the boards. 2 minute charging call. Should be a suspension but Boychuk wasn't hurt so he'll probably get nothing.

Downie and Kunitz should each get a suspension for their hits tonight.. Downie launched himself into Lovejoy, the same type of hit he threw on McCammond (I think?) and got suspended for.. The Colby Armstrong special.

Kunitz with stupid drive by elbow on a player with concussion history too.. stupid.

So what you're saying is yes he wasn't paying attention and if Torres waited a second more and Seabs actually touched the puck he still wouldn't have had his head up and react on the play and would have still been smashed. He put himself in that situation and he got wrecked. Still not a blindside because he's looking back, his blindside is his perifs when he's facing forwards. Now if he faced the glass or turned towards the puck and got hit from behind then we have an issue.

Just unbelievable, the complete disregard for other players these guys have. Get rid of them both for good...no one will miss them.

Do you speak English?

I'm saying that the hit was from a direction that Seabrook couldn't see coming. The NHL says that it's legal to do so in that area.

Every team has one or two of them, some have a lot more.

Agreed. My favorite team employs its fair share of them. I'm still embarrassed Zac Rinaldo is part of the organization.

Kronwall had a similar hit against the blackhawks, and people gave him credit for his hit. At the end of the day, I think it was a bad hit because Seabs didn't have the puck, but at the same time, if he touches it, that hit is coming regardless. Seabrook didn't do himself any favors with his positioning behind the net. You need to know where players are, and know not to leave yourself in vulnerable positions because of morons like Torres

Which is completely ridiculous. Blindside is blindside no matter what area.. A Hitting Area.. give me a freaking break! Might as well call it 'Run a defenseless player without consequence area'

Holy crap Campbell is going to be busy tomorrow...

He's not allowed to deal with the Pouliot hit because of his son being on the Bruins, so maybe only 2 hearings for Coly

here's the video of the Downie hit on Lovejoy. He has to at least be done for the series after that, no? On the bright side, Benny jumped right back up and he was credited with an assist on the play. If Campbell doesn't punish Downie because there was no injury I'm going to be pissed.

not a very good slow-mo replay of it but you can see him leaving his feet and that classic behind the net hit on an unsuspecting d-man from the resident d-bag in Tampa. This footage also doesn't show the bee-line Downie made from the blue line to make that hit. No intention of playing the puck.

That looks an awful lot like the Torres hit that just go nothing...so I'm calling nothing.

Nothing for Pouliot either. I figure the League will go "he threw a questionable hit...then was challenged to fight and did, penance paid"

Downie's history is the wild card. That actually looks less like a suspension than Torres hit to me, other than the fact it looks like he left his feet more than usual.

Kunitz will get 1 game. HNIC just mentioned something in the Buffalo game too, but Kaletta was the player that got hit. Therefore, no susp.

I think Kunitz gets more than one, unless they pull the "playoff games are more valuable..." nonsense. Kaletta was injured on a pick by Coburn. There was nothing to warrant a suspension in that hit.

CBC made it sound like it might have been more of a trip/leg whip than just a pick play.

After watching the replay many times, the puck was about a foot away from his stick at the time of impact. As far as the "He wasn't going anywhere," he was gliding behind the net and most likely going to go forward with the puck. If the hit was a second later he could have seen Torres coming and braced himself, but thats a moot point.

On another note, that Downie hit better get at least a couple of games. When I saw that hit, definitely felt a little deja vu.

I find it hypocritical that you say this but you state that Downie's hit on Lovejoy was the same as Torres' hit on Seabrook but include that it appears Downie left his feet. What I gather you said Torres interfered with Seabrook because quote, "there's a penalty for players who don't touch the puck but get hit" but what was in question was if he targeted the head. You proved my point but turned it into something it wasn't.

I didn't realize you were the one that set the criteria for discussion on hits. I'll try to keep that in mind moving forward.

Downie didn't make initial contact with the head on Lovejoy either, but it was an obvious charge. Just like Torres hit was interference and a cheap shot on an unsuspecting player. You a couple guys from Vancouver are about the only ones on the planet that don't see something wrong with it.

One game for trying to drill a guy in the back of the head, even with the new focus on head shots? Colin Campbell is pathetic and has been for a long time. Nothing surprises me anymore with his random wheel of discipline.

I definitely agree with the above. I was expecting maybe 2 for Downie and 3-4 for Kunitz. The league is making it really tough to respect the decision makers and higher ups. Embarrassing...
