Did you mean Tootoo?

Blindside + charging. Way to go. I hate Tootoo more than I hate any other player. Guys got mental issues.

He brushes the body so there won't be a suspension. That said, the league would be well served if guys like Tootoo never played another NHL game.

TSN talked about that hit last night. They figured (Bobby Mac)...that the 5 was fair for leaving his feet, but that it would not garner a suspension.

Aside from leaving his feet, which Tootoo has done his whole career, that was a clean shoulder check. Colaiacovo had just played the puck, so it wasn't interference, or a late hit. Was it blindside, yes. Did he target the head? Maybe, but it wasn't the main point of contact, and how can anyone prove that he "targeted" the head, without him actually making contact.

This is an example of that I was talking about earlier. If these types of hits are taken out of the game (clean shoulder checks, not the charging), it's only a leap and a jump to "you can only hit a player if he's looking right at you."

At some point, the players getting hit need to be responsible for keeping their heads up. The NHL is slowly shifting the responsibility of players from "keep your head up or get your bell rung" to "make sure the you're hitting guy sees you."

Anyone who has played full contact has gotten their bell rung once or twice. I know from personal experience, it's not a fun lesson to learn, but you learn it quick.

That being said, Tootoo has always been a dirty player, and will continue to be for his entire career. A major for charging is the correct call and there shouldn't be any further action.

I dont see how its a blindside if he hit him from the front? its not tootoo's fault his head was down. granted he did jump making it dirty, other then that I wouldnt say its an outright cheap hit. there's been far worse.

One of my issues with the Tootoo hit is that he could have played the puck if he wanted. He chose not to make an attempt to play the puck just so he could drill a guy that didn't see him coming. You see it all the time when someone dumps the puck into the corner and both guys try to be the second one there so they can hammer the other guy. For a lot of guys, the puck isn't really a big part of their game and the NHL suffers for it.

Briere has a 10 AM conference call regarding incidents in last night's game. I could see him getting a game out of it.

I may be a bit of a homer, but anytime a player gets a stick up in the face of another player in a non-hockey play, there should be a 5-10 game suspension. Nino gets smacked in the face with a stick, now Nielsen is getting cross checked in the head off a faceoff. I love hockey being a tough physical sport, but some of these plays are just rediculous. And Hunter getting 5, 10 and a game misconduct for a clean hit??? Seriously refs? Someone owes that man an apology. f****ng ridiculous.

I'd like to know what was said to Briere to make him crosscheck Nielsen in the face.

Me too.Its ridiculous to watch this video, Carcillo , Briere and that smug crap Pronger pulls at the end.Carcillo is a joke.

Whatever was said to Briere certainly did not warrant a crosscheck to the head followed by Carcillo hitting him from behind. Am I the only who noticed Carcillo's slash on Dipietro's right knee which I believe is the one that's been injured a couple of times already?

I saw that too, wonder will the NHL say or do anything about that ?

In cases like that where Briere did what he did, the linesman shouldn't be saving them from a teammate exacting some retribution. Too many times that leads to something stupid the next time the two teams meet. You want to crosscheck a guy in the head on a faceoff then you'll take a few rights or a blocker for it.

Should have been two games for Carcillo, given previous incidents and I think what he did was worse. One game for Briere, one game for DiPi for leaving the crease twice in one game. I knew Briere was going to get suspended, I just didn't think it would be for three games, given how much of a joke the league's disciplinary system is.

There's no way to write that off as a hockey play. Campbell will give the benefit of the doubt if he can make up some type of hockey related excuse, but in this case, there was no way he could do that. Intentional sticks to the head are one of the few things he seems to be hard on.

I think swinging your stick into a guy's head is definitely worse than hitting a guy in the back well away from the boards. But then, of course, Philly would lose a spare part for two instead of an offensive weapon for three and that can't be.

As for DiPietro leaving the crease, I never thought I'd see a Philly fan argue against such action.

Watching Briere think for a couple seconds after Nielsen says something to him, makes you think what he could have said to set him off. Like Zidain in the World Cup.

No excuse, you can't cross check a guy in the face, but whatever he said, really hit a nerve.

Briere reportedly said that Nielsen said something to him and thought Nielsen was going to do something so he hit him first. Unfortunately he was a coward and did it with his stick. Carcillo's reported explanation was worse. He said he saw Briere hit Nielsen and figured something was going on and he should get a shot in. How Carcillo gets nothing is ridiculous. Also how does Chris Simon get 25 games for the same thing but Briere gets 3. Not so sure there is anything clear about the league's disciplinary system. It is also interesting in that after Konopka and Gillies were gone, Carcillo was looking to dirty it up and doesn't get tossed until this. You cannot as a ref take away one teams fighters and leave a guy like Carcillo to run around out on the ice.

As for DiPietro leaving the crease the second time, remember that the Isles were 3 on 5. What would you expect him to do? He had a crappy night (season so far) in goal, but at least he stood up for his teammates.

I have edited the post to include a link to Briere's response. Flyer's Scoop - Briere shocked by suspension Flyers website link
